I dont see the big deal on getting a hotel for the night while loaded. I have done it a few times. Only when i had a friday load to be delivered monday and i had a day to sit. The van i drive does not have a dedicated sleeper so where do i sleep or relax at? I always parked the van where it was with in view at all times. I also dont get hotels in bad areas where i would have to eye ball it all times

I think there are companies that will put the driver up in a room if they have a layover and have no space left for sleeping. I think the real issue is making sure the vehicle is kept track of and run-ready regardless of where the driver sleeps. Could have almost as easily had a no-start after a night sleeping in the vehicle, but the room adds one more question to the driver's judgement. Much like taking a shortcut. No one is going to care until the day when the shortcut doesn't work then the company is going to lynch the driver for being the most irresponsible being on the face of the planet (we'll make some pretty good jokes of it too). On the positive side, this incident may help delay the next driver's lynching.
