Flying J Parking Policy

Screw Flying J. The only two I have ever enjoyed were the ones in Baytown, Texas, and Lordsburg, NM.

I pulled into the hook in Lodi, California last week, and parked up front (where just about EVERY expediter does). It was late, and my bride was sawing logs. I shut off the truck, and turn on the APU and A/C. While I concede, it's a Carrier, and a tad loud, it's not horrible. There's a real expensive RV two slots over, and I see one of the occupants get up and head toward the store.

I get out, and start talking to the driver of the other FDCC truck on the other side of me. Soon as I do, the store manager's knocking on my truck door. I asked him what he wanted, and he asks if I can please limit the use of my generator, so that the other people parked up front can sleep.

I'm thinking a couple of things: I spent almost $80k in diesel fuel last year. While I admit that little of it was at a P/FJ, there will even be less of it this year. I'm going in to liberate water from their RV islands and little else. Next, is there really that much business from the RV crowd? Yeah, I understand that they have to buy fuel somewhere, but if they can afford to buy a $250k home on wheels, you mean to tell me they can't afford to pay for a rented slot for the night?

P/FJ's priorities are way outta whack. While some of the TA's are still dumps, they're mostly tolerable.

Screw Flying J. Hope I wasn't unclear.

A Post-it note on his windshield: "Can't afford a motel? Use earplugs!"

FJ catered to Rvs first, so if there were that much business, would they have bought out Pilot? I don't think so.
You could send a letter to FJ corporate, describing your experience, and pointing out how much you spend on fuel [bet it's 10X what an RV buys] I'd also include a photo of your truck, so they know you're not exactly a bum. Money talks. [To corporate, it positively screams, usually.] They need to know that yours isn't speaking to them any more, lol.

Personally I wished they'd keep all the straights and bobtails out of the front lot......the noise from all them APU's is deafening....Can't they make a whisper quiet model?....

My reply to him would be: "Please limit the volume on your shower announcements and crappy music."

Took them that long to replace the elbow and shower head that some morons like to tamper with.

I agree with you 100%.How about the Flying J in Ft.Pierce, Fla? They actually have, at one time when I was down there, asked some trucks to move to make room for the motor homes in the big truck lot.So there they are, all spread out, awnings out, slides out, etc,In a parking lot that reeks of pee in the blazing hot sun...nice...But yet, if you turn left out of the J, and go over the highway, there is a nice state park there, on the left. And many shopping malls further down.I asked them once, why, and they told me because it was "too expensive " to camp at a campground...Go figure.

I don't mind if they park up front, as it makes more sense for a bobtail to take up half a space with half a truck. But, I don't agree with the drivers who idle their truck all night long while it is 65 or cooler outside.I can understand if they are using a microwave, etc, but so many idle so much, and are usually the first ones to complain about the high cost of fuel...lol...

well, as far as straights not parking out front. you take your van and park out back with all the no backin, i dont own my trailer morons and get the front end taken off. we dont park at truckstops unless its shower day the next day or there is no where else but we always park up front. we also always try to put the generator side away from others no matter where we park if at all possible.

as far as the generator running. ours runs all the time if we are in the truck. to much stuff running to not have it going charging the batteries and if its hot or cold out it has to run to keep ms. daisy comfy. tried the turn on and off mode but the constant decharge and charge kills batteries. we get much longer life not doing that plus everything is also set up to run on 110 when we are setting so the generator has to run.

i do agree though that some have no sense when parking with a generator. they will back in put it right next to your sleeper and fire it up. we can all manage to use the front if everyone would just have a little common sense and courtesy. we divide the truckstops up years ago. vans and straights up front big trucks out back.

Both my brother and I drive my brother drives T/T and I prefer S/T and we agree 1 truck stops are nothing more than a convience store with a big parking lot. 2 Dennys is in business because you are too hammered to be allowed into a real restraunt,

Actually, it makes perfect sense for Denny's to be in truck stops. Truck stops have business because their clientele have no place else to go. That's Denny's business model. Aside from breakfast, who goes to freakin' Denny's if they have any other option?
Denny's needs to do a Domino's and just admit they blow and revamp their whole operation.
