Flying J Parking Policy

It may just be Florida or it may just be me, but the last two Flying J's I have been to (Tampa 4/75 and Fort Pierce) have seriously restricted expeditors parking. One said Denny's has new owner and they insist on all parking in front of their restaurants be for Denny's customers. In Ft. Pierce, that left some RV long slots and about 10 parking places for employees and expediters and other hangers on.

I suspect we use a LOT more fuel over a year than RVers, and feel we are being given a bum rap on this. I've never seen 40+ people in a Denny's....

The wishes of Dennys may very well be true. Perhaps fuel sales have nothing to do with the restaurant profit, don't know that for fact. I'm sympathetic to your issue as well, but it might just be better to seek alternate parking options.

There is a TA at I4 exit 10 in Tampa and one at I95 exit 147 in Vero Beach.
Why bother staying a a Flying J or Pilot that doesn't make you feel welcome?
We only stop at them in an emergency,to sleep in there parking lot, to use the facilities or throw away our trash.
We no longer spend money at either one because of there attitude.

Am I hearing sounds of ban the vans. Could be the sign of coming attractions, like paying a dollar a day to sit on the van side of life. Ahh, just another way to take your money? IMHO>

I'm with ya, I like the peace and quiet of hiding behind shopping centers and chain stores. Never have I been run off in a small vehicle. Right now I am camping behind Academy sports, and all I hear are the birds chirping. I am a pet owner, and I'm sure this is a factor for my parking habits but the grass is always green and plush, which makes my dog happy.

The J in Tampa never has been a good place to park, since the lot is so small. Across the street at the TA is much better. As for Denny's, they always look empty, but I've seen them fill up at meal time, especially breakfast.

Seems to be votes for TA (of truck stops) here. I'm somewhat of a newbie and had heard we aren't all that welcome at TA. But have not tried them personally - maybe I should? - in addition to learning new big box parking lots......

It's not Florida, but Denny's... same thing it happened in Laredo, TX

I hesitate to share my secret weapon here, but I will..if you could find vacant commercial real estate for sale, that equals good parking. There's an app for that.

we had many problems with parking out front at the j in laredo. a few years ago that was where all the straight trucks parked. then they decided we were to heavy to park out front. couldnt make them understand we were no heavier than an rv. so we all quit parking there and switched to the t/a.[ most t/a's are now expediter friendly.] then pilot took over and look at all the tractors that are parked out in front there now, its like a used truck lot.

we are like the others, we park mostly at other locations where it is much nicer and quieter.

I just got some feedback on Denneys from a friend of mine on the road in Dallas at the J, Denneys may and I repeat may, be on their way out of business at the J's.

well, that would be great. we have not been to one dennys in a j that we would call good. dennys used to be a great place to get a good reasonable portion of food at a decent price. since going into the j they have become overpriced the measly amount of food they put on your plate for the 20 + bucks it costs to eat there. we dont need a huge meal but we would like to get what we pay for. we quit going to them quite awhile ago. we dont eat out that much but when we do it is generally breakfast so we like to have a good one.

outside of the breakfast crowd they appear not to be doing so good...

And people think a Huddle House is good food, that is what is going into some J's now. My idea of good food is cooking it myself from scratch.

JJ: you mentioned stopping at the Hook to throw away trash - how do you get it into the cup-sized holes in their trash barrels? Please don't say you lift the lid - that's too gross even for a truck driver, lol.
The only time I ever liked to eat @ Denny's was when the bars closed, everywhere else was closed, and I was very drunk. [In public!] The good ol days, right?
Now I'm parked beside a Kroger on the Ms/La stateline, enjoying BBQ chicken & baked potato that I cooked myself, and it's exactly the way I like it.
;)
