FLLET ONE TRUCKERS ADVANTAGE

If you have not heard of this you need to... This is a debit card for truckers, hooked right up to your checking account or savings account.

You purcahse all of your fuel, tires, repairs etc.. and once a week they debit your checking account for a fee of .20 a week. You can call, or look up your balance daily or hourly off the internet to see where you are at exactly at anytime during the week.

Cash prices at the pump no more credit card charges like Pilot charging .06 a gallon thats over $25 a week if you burn just 400 gallons on a very good week. Right out of your profits. They also give you a.02 credit on every gallon you purcahse. Need cash just tell the cashier not to close the ticket and you got it. It also has a tire program and many other features.

You must be a member of OOIDA, cant wait to begin saving $ with it. If you sign up please use my name or Leo as he refered me.

I've been interested in joining OOIDA for a while. Can you tell me what other benefits there are in joining other than the one posted.
Thanks!

Just go to OOIDA.com for info and if you decide to join use one of the OOIDA members here as reference when joining . Some EO members have their OOIDA membership number in their signature .

The Education just from the magazine you recieve is enough for my membership fee. Know one is out there backing up us Drivers O/O except these folks. It is a small price to pay for all of the benefits you recieve.

I JUST RENEWED my memebership for another year and as I stated a while back, have yet to see what they do for me. The only request they ever filled for me was sending my decals.

As for the debit card why not just use one that you can get with you own checking account. Why bring another group of people into your account. I was scratching my head when I saw that offer and I am really itching now.

Maybe someone can help me see the benefit of this

RE: FLEET ONE TRUCKERS ADVANTAGE

I've renewed my OOIDA membership each year at Expedite Expo. The show price has been $25 in lieu of the regular $40. The show price is the same for new or renewed membership.

The biggest reason would be because the debit card from you friendly Bank of Podunk gets charged the card price for fuel not the 4-5 cents lower cash price. The second biggest reason would be because the debit card from Bank of Podunk doesn't get a 2 cents per gallon rebate at the end of the month on every gallon purchased. Burn 1000 gallons a month and that's $60-70 per month or about $750 a year difference for a $25 dollar annual membership cost. That seems worthwhile to me.

You get the $25 rate by using a current member's name and number when you join and the $25 rate when you renew if you do it at any of the truck shows. Mine is in my signature if anyone wants it. I imagine Terry or Broompilot or anyone else would supply theirs if you prefer theirs over mine. OOIDA is good for anyone, whether a driver in somebody else's truck or an owner in your own truck. They are the only organization truly fighting HOS and other things on our behalf. They don't win all their fights but at least they do what is right for us and not for the giant companies in the industry.

Yes, adding the third truck causes new contracts to be drawn with the new rate and the trucks are renumbered at that time.

Sounds like a decent benefit, but let's take a little closer look at the math. I'd like to help you save even more of your hard earned money.

Using the fleet card you save .05 per gallon. Buying 1000 gallons that nets you a $50.00 savings.

Using my credit card I buy the same 1000 gallons for $2.80 per gallon (instead of $2.75/gal). I spend $2800.00 for fuel, BUT I get a 5% rebate on the dollars spent. $2800.00 times 5% nets me a $140 rebate. Take my $140.00 rebate and subtract the $50 I didn't get as discounted cash pricing at the pump and I still saved $90.00 more.

Pay your credit card on time and you are using their money for free! And you gain the additional benefit of the rebate.
Now that is a win/win deal.

Even if my OOIDA membership doesn't save money at the fuel pumps, I still think it's money well spent. The magazine Landline has good, useful information, and, as Leo says, they are working on our behalf, not the industry giant ATA. I think they deserve our support.

I agree that the proper credit card used in the proper way is a better tool. The question though was why to use this specific tool versus the debit card issued by your bank. Comparing just those two tools this is the winner. The other factor to consider is the credit card. I'm only aware of the Wilco Hess card giving 5% rebate. My Conoco branded card gives 3% which is still ahead of the truckers advantage card but not by as much. For those people who can't get one of the rebate credit cards this is a better option than paying cash or using their bank debit card.

Never said that I didn't support them.

I am a member.

The Fleet Card is only a service offered by OOIDA. There is no financial gain or loss to OOIDA if I do or do not choose to use that particular service. I use other services offered by OOIDA and I have a good relationship with them. I proudly display their emblems on my truck and I have encouraged other drivers to become members.

That is why I enjoy living in America, because I have freedom of choice. As veteran I take that freedom very seriously. And let me thank you in advance for not making any future errors in your posts that would portray my integrity in a manner which it is not.

As a business owner living in a free market economy I will choose those services that permit me to operate profitably. I am more than certain that OOIDA holds to the same business principles.

And now you can be on your way. Have a great holiday.

Leo,

You hit the nail right on the head.

America is awash with folks who can not seem to manage their money.

Think about the time frame in which the debit card became popular.

America was in the midst of the greatest number of bankruptcies ever to have been filed. Guess who pays for that mismanagement?

The banks would deny the bankrupt client a credit card, but they would give them a touchy feely warm and fuzzy debit card so they wouldn't go through plastic withdrawls.

AMEX pays 5% after you charge the first $6500 and they continue to rebate up to $50,000. Master Card Diamond Rewards offer 5% across the board, but you must impeccable credit. Ah yes, there in lies the crux of our discussion.

Good credit; use the credit card.

Debit card for not so good credit.

Either way; it is a matter of personal choice.

Suggestion: Re-establish good credit. It is like losing weight. Once you take off 140lbs, you will never want to be that heavy again!

Dhalltoyo: I thank you for the wish that I have a great holiday, and the help in achieving it by providing a few fireworks to get it started, but I have to say, with all due respect, that the error is yours. My comments, although appearing after yours, weren't directed to you - the OOIDA number after your name is a pretty good indication that you support them. My comments were for those who don't think OOIDA has anything to offer.
Like Leo, I use my Conoco credit card for fuel on the road, because of the rebate, but I appreciate that OOIDA offers a program too, so we can choose what works best for us. I like having a choice - it makes me think about things more than I might otherwise.

At a PILOT this would be .08 in savings. What credit card gives a 5% discount on fuel?

Seriously please let us all know, I might be able to belive on retail purchases but fuel? Wilco probably can cause its there fuel, Pilot gave me nothing I canceled it this morning. I am very impressed with this new fuel card if for nothing else I am not walking inside of the Pilot first just swipe fill than go in and sign.

To be able to get cash at ANY fuel station is another benfit with out the fees, thats worth a savings of $1.50 a week to me $3.00 every two weeks to withdraw enough out on the road as I use to do, now I just ask for a much smaller amount, thats $60. a year(40 weeks out) for no effort on my part. Small investment of $25 one time sign on, and .20 a week for maintance and no stamps to buy it could not be any easier. Just keep a balance in your checking account as they debit once a week.

I question the statement OOIDA makes no financial gain from members signing up for the Truckers Advantage card . While it may be true this particular card is only available to OOIDA members , other Fleet One cards are available to the general public . I have a new Fleet One directory which identifies fuel stops that give rebates . Not all fuel bought gives rebates .

Here you go Mr. Broompilot.

No it's not a commie plot, you don't have to worry about the government flying black helicopter gunships overhead and it offers a rebate that seems to be (Oh, dare I say it) like a handout. I know, I know...big business is trying to rip us off. NOT! And here is an opportunity, IF you use it wisely.

CITI® DIVIDEND PLATINUM SELECT® CARD REWARD PROGRAM INFORMATION

Your Citi Dividend Card account ("Card Account") will receive a rebate based upon eligible transactions appearing on your current month’s billing statement. Such eligible transactions include purchases, cash advances and balance transfers, which will show cumulatively on your statement as “Dividend Dollarsâ€, as long as your Card Account is open and current. (Rebates on cash advances and balance transfers may take up to three billing cycles before they appear on your billing statement.) However, if your Card Account is no longer current, you will not be able to earn or redeem Dividend Dollars. If your Card Account is closed, you will no longer be able to earn or redeem your Dividend Dollars and unless you reopen your Card Account within 90 days of closure, you will forfeit any accumulated Dividend Dollars.

You will earn 5% on purchases made at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations and 1% on all other purchases. Supermarkets are defined as stand-alone merchants that primarily sell a complete line of food merchandise for home consumption. Drugstores are stand-alone merchants that primarily sell prescription and proprietary drugs and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines. Gas stations are merchants that primarily sell vehicle fuel for consumer use.

Note: As long as Flying J, Pilot, Loves, Petro, etc. sell fuels for consumer use, which they do, the rebate works. Of course, there are many BP, Marathon, Speedway, Sunoco, Shell stations that have 1-4 diesel pumps for trucks and 10-16 other pumps for regular use. They have yet to reject any of my fuel purchases.

Isn't that limited to $300 total fuel rebates? That's the problem with some of the cards, they have caps on the amount of rebate available.
