Flat rate???

I can usually put up with surface dispatchers when they're willing to pay TVal rates.
When they think I should run at surface rates it can go to comical all the way to ugly.
I am always polite. They are sometimes not as polite. I understand their frustration from years of dispatching. So I never hold it against them.

Polite is always the way to start, but when they get worse I get the worse...sometimes it's a battle, most times they understand....then on occasion they are desperate and that my friends is when we win haha

The tide may be changing.
It used to be us lowly surface trucks would get the opportunities that WG declined.
Now WG will get the opportunities that surface declines since the dispatchers can still negotiate with them.
All those nice runs to nowhere with lots and lots of deadhead. Or those nice short runs that have to be covered.:D

Lol. It's all backwards! And when I put my liftgate on and go to w/g class I can steal your good paying w/g non-tval loads from you for $1.30 a mile!

Those loads will get put on the Sylectus board and covered.

Most runs can be nice runs if the numbers look good.

We also can still say no.

If you reply "add layover in x" that may get you the load and $1plus to Minn or Sacramento may make everyone happy. Or happier.

No offense dwt, but that is what brought us the Flat Rate Program.

We've all done it. Myself included. Some just do it too often. :(

I'm guilty of it as a surface truck too but sometimes it's by accident. If I really don't want a load I will often times bid stupid so they see my offer and move on. If I don't they call/message/resend the load to me 5 times so this pretty much works to way over price the load to keep them from bothering me again. But occasionally they accept my offer and I find myself on this load I didn't want to do but can't turn down. I call that an accident. It should've gone to another truck but somehow I got it for a stupid high rate.

I am curious, and pm me if you want, but what does a t-val load usually bring in? I don't know if a t-val truck charges $1.25/mile or $10/mile. And I mean an average we'll call it 1,000 miles, no dead head. Even we can make $10 a mile if it's a super short load with minimal dead head.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face ?

Do you have good enough teeth to get into WG ? ( Inside joke )

Are they adding WG dry units ? I imagine the waiting list got longer last week.

Notice no dry trucks have jumped on here to say I'm going to Carrier X because they have a better deal than the FedEx flat rate ?

I have a liftgate, blankets, pallet jack, furniture dolly, etc. I am WG qualified having been TVAL for a fleet owner for a year. 100% on time pick up and delivery for over 5 years. 3 or 4 Purple Promise awards. No accidents, violations or CSA points, ever.
There are no slots for a non TVAL WG truck.
At least that's what they keep telling me.

Wait !

You're going to bid the loads DOWN ?

Go back to Express 1.

W/g loads are $1.30 on flat rate. That's what I was referring to. If I go w/g I'll buy a t-val truck. I'm still truck shopping. Hard to make decisions when your carrier makes major changes mid contract.

Any carrier can/will do things mid contract.
For various reasons. Many that are worse than what was done here.
One guarantee in business.

There are no guarantees.

Wouldn't it be hard to buy a TVal truck if you don't know the rates.
I'll pm you tomorrow.

I think TK raised their prices 20% last Monday. LOL.

I run solo in an E unit. Most of the time I get $2.00 per mile for all miles dispatch sends me on a load offer. If it is HAZ I ask for more and usually get about $2.10 for all miles, including FS on both. That may be cheap for this business, I don't know being basically a rookie at expediting but to me it's satisfactory.

I've done the math on my last load and the one I'm currently on.
Figuring my last load with the upcoming pay scale it was $64 less than what I got paid at $2.00 per mile.
My current load comes up $60.06 short.

Now can someone please tell me if I'm doing my math right or wrong.
I took the numbers from the "RUN" message on the C-link. Multiplied the DHPU miles x $1.00 then added what it shows for FS. Multiplied "RUN" miles by $1.50 then added FS to get my total pay for the load according to the new pay scale for E units.
Also, if I'm selling myself short overall on what I'm currently asking for please let me know.

You should make that $60 up in toll assistance.

I think your right. I keep seeing tval people say they are safe because fedex said they looked at it and decided not to make them flat rate, but they forget the last part where they say "for now ". They aren't ruling it out they just can't deal with that much change at 1 time.

They said the same thing about the c,d and e surface fleet as well as white glove when they forced B units to flat rate. FEDEX will do what they want. You either go with it and see what happens or get out of the system.

I have seen many changes in 10 years with them. The one constant is the steady decline of rates & good paying runs. It's not a FEDEX thing, it's an industry thing. Frankly there is more then enough blame to go around. The Golden age of expediting is over fellas.

Don't forget the FSC will change too! It's going to be based on 6.5 miles instead of the current 6 miles. So there's another cut.
I know most of you here are straight trucks and vans. I am a TT.

I tried to initiate a conversation before, when we were trying out the FCR Tval trailer program (which pays lower than SE, has low miles and you pay the reefer fuel) ,on average rates and it was pretty much shut down because every truck has their own "magic numbers". I understand that.
We have always averaged around $2.00 a mile all miles (with tolls and other stuff lumped in), we would ask $2.15 for hazmat. These rates were based on 3 yrs experience of what the load ops were sent out at. Over the past few months the load ops have dropped down to the $1.70 per mile range. And much lower if there was a lot of DH. Please share (pm me if you wish) what you are seeing and experiencing.

What is the average fuel milage for a straight truck?
The reasoning fedex stated for cutting the FSC on e units was increased avg mpg across the fleet. Wouldn't st8 be increasing too? So why not cut their FSC?
