FISHEN HOLE FRIENDS?

Okay boys I've been trolling these waters of expedite for a long time now and I've come to a conclusion on one thing: Drivers on the road don't, won't and aint gonna give up their fishen hole to no one. This is what I mean: Your sitten at the truck stop and another driver walks in from your company, sits down and starts talken and the first thing out of his mouth is: how ya' runnen? ya' maken any money out here? Translation: where ya' gettin good paying runs out of and let me in on it. We like to act like we have each others back and we like to talk a good game, here on this forum and out on the road, but the truth is NONE of us is willing or wanting to give the next good ole' boy any information about our "good fishen hole". Lets face it boys, it has taken you and me many long days, weeks, and years to cultivate our "go to spots and for sure locations" just to hand them out over a dime store cup of coffee. Fishen hole friends; ain't likely, however; I'm willing to help ya' buy a bucket of worms. Happy Fishen out their!

There are no good fishing holes in expedite cause as soon as you find one the fish will move
But I love to fish........

Even if the fish stay put, today they want worms, tomorrow it might be cheeseballs - you just can't predict what the fish will want next! So, you have to enjoy the fishing, even when you don't catch a durn thing. :)

vango,

When it comes to drivers sharing information with each other about loads, our experience is opposite yours. For example:

Expediting friends of ours live in Reno. Our carrier has a regular customer there. Our friends know more about getting out of Reno than most others. If there is a question about us deadheading there or perhaps deadheading out (has never happened), we'll call them first for their current views and advice, which they happily share.

Last year in the midst of Katrina chaos, a couple friends of ours were working those loads, as were we. We regularly called each other to compare notes and exchange recommendations on how we could do better.

The calls are made less frequently now that we've covered all states and many cities several times, but in our early days friends we made on the road where happy to share what they knew about what parts of cities to hang out in and what areas to avoid.

It is not a problem sharing what you know about say Atlanta or Columbus or any other express center. We can only be in one place at a time. If someone wants to know where to hang out in the Twin Cities (our home express center) and we're in Atlanta, it hurts nothing to tell them.

Even if we're in the Twin Cities too, it is better to help. We've received far more back from others than we ever gave simply by being willing to give when asked.

By the way, if you are in the Twin Cities, the Mall of America in Bloomington is a great place to hang out. Free truck parking is available until late at night. You are across the freeway (I-494) from the airport and close to the airport-orientd freight companies located nearby. You are equidistant from downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul. While they are not easily spotted by visitors, there are some very good truck service facilities within a short drive. And of course, the Mall of America dining, movies, theme park and shopping are all right there. Golf, walking and biking trails are nearby too. Parking at the Mall is safe. The lot is clean, well-lit and patrolled. When the parking area closes, you can take a short drive down U.S. 52 and spend the night at the reasonably-clean AM Best truck stop.

Exactly. It hurts absolutely nothing to tell others where the good places to sit might be. I'm not familiar with where to sit and wait in Canada. With Con-Way, we usually went in, dropped off, and came right back out. So, no experience as to where to layover to wait for a load.

I recently asked an Panther veteran about places to sit in Canada. His response, "I'm not going to give up my secrets."

Unbelievable. As if, like, I'm in Toronto and I'm somehow preventing him from getting a load out of Nashville, or something. What a goofball.

I'm not out after his secrets. I'm after for a safe place to park, out of the way and not bothering anyone else, and a place where I can get some sleep without having the police knock on my window to find out what I'm doing in there.

Even if he lets me get a glimpse of his Precious, and I roll in and park right next to him, he's still on the board ahead of me.

His secrets. Too funny.

On the other hand, I have had people tell me things like, "Well, if you park there, you're only on one board, but if you go a mile over to that place then you're on 3 boards and will have a much better chance of getting out quickly."

There are some good folks out there, and they make the goofballs look even goofier. :)

Turtle,
Thanks for you response. This is exactly what I'm talking about. When my wife and I run into anyone from any other carrier and they ask us for places to get runs out of or good centers to sit in, to get good runs out of - we tell em'. What good does it do for us to keep this info to ourselves. We are not all going to be at the places for runs at the same time, this is a big ole' country and if everyone would help everyone, we all would make money.
We appreciate you helping others with your knowledge.
Here some for you. You may already know, you get WalMart runs out of Bentonville, Arkansas. Little Rock for us has always been a black hole but then others say Little Rock has been good to them. Also, in Shenandoah, Iowa, there is an Eaton plant there and they ship out loads and loads everyday. When we get close to this location, we go and park in their parking lot and bingo we get the runs. Also, just south of Atlanta there is an applicance shipper, but we can't remember the shippers name. We park outside of their gate and get a run every time. Hope some of this helps.
Thanks again for your caring attitude and God bless out there.

Glad to hear that others are out there sharing. We are in the situation right now if not for the help of another driver we would not be running. With the help of others we are where we are today and we gladly share info with others that might help them out. Sometime you get into an area as in Little Rock and you immediately get a load and you think wow great spot!! Next time you choose to go there and you dead head out. You have to learn by your experiences and also other drivers giving you the heads up. We really want to thank all of the drivers who have helped us over the last year and a half.

I have no problem with sharing information with my fellow drivers. I am a solo D unit and it is sometimes hard to stay on top of things. So if I can pass some info to make it easier as well as gain some, then it 's all good.

Luckily, I also find that most expediters are friendly and enjoy sharing their gemeral knowledge. Of course there are some loads that require being tight lipped about.

I am a naturally inquisitve person by nature and find it interesting how people are doing and where their travels take them. I don't ask people "are ya makin any money" questions but I am one of those guilty parties that will ask drivers with my company "are you empty or loaded" "are ya on the board" or "where ya headed"

I see postings here from people that are offended by those questions but the way I see it all you have to say is "I can't talk about it"
That covers all the bases. If you like to guard you're secrecy thats fine and maybe on the other hand the truck I approached may actually be on a sensitive or high value load. Either way, I think most drivers that ask those questions are just trying to be friendly not steal someone elses account.

PS Caffee, hmmmm wonder who that was that helped ya get running last night?? I am sitting in a McD in Fairfield,Ca now. Wave at me this afternoon on yer way to the Bay

Vango you may need help some day and wouldn't it be nice for you to receive back some of the help you gave others. Remember it is always better to give than to receive.
