Hello everyone, got a quick question. Got a friend of mine soon to be retired cop. Wants to know about the legalitys about carrying a firearm in a commercial vehicle. I told him I was pretty sure that you couldnt but that I would check. I went to fmcsrs website and went through the book and couldnt find a ##### thing about carrying guns in the truck.Since there is no regulation it seems as though you can, and I figure laws change from state to state. Does anyone out there have a definitive ansewer?? Thanks for all your help.

Absolutly NOT. State Lines etc....

I live in N.C. When pulled over two times now this was the SECOND QUESTION BOTH TIMES... First your Drivers Lisc. please, than do you have a firearm in the vehicle.

As operators of Commercial Vehicles you are not allowed to carry one. Now I cannot speak if you never cross a state line and have a permit for that state to carry a conceled weapon.

I am sure more who know more will post behind me.

If your friend is a retiring cop, seems like he would be able to find out better than any of us. Let us know what HE comes up with ;)

I was told once by a TN Dot officer that you can carry the weapon in the cab but it must be unloaded. So why bother.

I heard a guy on the c.b. (so it must be true) say that he carried a U.S. Coast Guard approved flare gun. He claimed this was legal as long as it was transported in its case. Apparently this flare gun looks like a short barrel shot gun and uses 12 gauge size shells.

I'm not sure what this would do to someone if you shot them with it. I would think at the very least it would make bad guys wet their pants.

Terry, what are your experiences with these flare guns. Do you know if they are legal to carry in a truck?

I am ex U.S. coast guard boarding officer the rule with having a gun is base on state laws no where does it say you cant carry a gun in a truck but if you are premitted to carry in mass and you cross state lines you fall under that states gun laws and would need a permit

As we all know, wasps, hornets, bumblebees, and other assorted forms of wildlife occasionally try to invade a truck or otherwise annoy or endanger the occupants.
Consequently, Marda and I have armed ourselves with a can of insect killer with a horn-type sprayer which can reach as far as 15 feet.
If one of those pests ever places us at a high level of risk, a faceful of that spray will probably discourage the aggressor.
When we enter Canada, we place the can out of sight in the sleeper.
If a man's home is his castle, is our mobile home a mobile castle?
Imagine that -- a self-propelled castle -- defended by an anti-insect security system!
Seriously, a can of insecticide -- the far-reaching type -- can be an easy alternative to the unpleasant questions attached to firearms in commercial trucks.
Best wishes to all,
Doc.

Great advice, Doc - keeps us from getting stung, for sure! I especially like the "horn type sprayer", which reduces the possibility of aiming it in the wrong direction in a panic situation...something I worry about, anyway.:+
