Find your own HazMat Routing

It appears we have finally found a link that will give us HazMat routing by entering the p/u and del addresses. I'm not sure it can always find the two addresses but it looks like it might work most of the time.

Will some of you try it and see what you find? This MAY be the solution we have all been looking for when we need a good HazMat route and dispatch is "non-responsive" or slow to respond.

Here is the link let me know what you think!

For those of us that do not have a Nuvi yet I think we will often refer to this website! Thanks India

I did and it didn't work.

the first test was from Madison Heights to Brighton Michigan, I know that no flammable hazmat loads are allowed on 696 and it routed me right onto 696.

The second test was from Pittsburgh to west virginia and it routed me where I should not go.

The third is through DC to West SC and it routed me in an odd way but not a allowable route.

These are three routes I have driven a few times before with hazmat loads.

Oh my goodness Greg! That is scary!! I was sooooo hoping this would be a good solution for us but we certainly can't take a chance and get off on a bad route. I think three tests routes that you use all the time is about the best test we can do with this. Sigh! Back to the drawing board!!

Thanks for testing it!

The National HAZMAT Registry was sort of detailed here:
http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/general-expediter-forum/37761-hazmat-question.html#post321843

It's primary benefit is that you can look up all the restricted routes in a given state, or along a particular road. When the Registry was first put in place, ALK Technologies was contracted to not only run the Web site, but also provide HAZMAT routing on the site using their PC Miler software. They did that for a time, a year or so, but for some reason they no longer run the Web site, and Mapquest mapping is used, instead. But Mapquest has no options for HAZMAT routing. Why the FMCSA decided to go with Mapquest, instead of nothing at all, I have no idea, as it just confuses people with inaccurate information.

Far as I know, the only accurate HAZMAT routing mapping software is PC Miler and the Nuvi 465.

garmini nuvi 465 will do it for you. i have not had any problems with hazmat routing

We got the 465 a few weeks ago and used it the for the first time on hazmat the other day. Going from ohio to laredo. I had a couple drums of paint. Had 2 problems with it. 1st one on the loop around indy just before the ramp back on 70 it wanted me to get off the loop one exit before 70. Well i kept going and when i got on the ramp to 70 it said hazmat was not allowed on the road. The 2nd one was the loop around san antonio on 410. it kept telling me to take exits and go into town. I just kept going on the loop and let it recaluclate. I'm not impressed with the 465 the old garmin seems like it did just as good, with regular routing anyway. Only time will tell.
