It's Mercedes version of a Fuel cooler. Cools return fuel to lower the risk of condensate forming in the tank and to keep fuel temps in line. It's common on common rail diesels, my Duramax has one twice the size of a log book.

People have an innate need to be validated in their views and decisions, which is why they strive to convince others to think the same way they do. The lamest of the lame actually deride those who do not agree with their decisions, in a desperate attempt to convince them to change their mind. They become evangelistic zealots for their cause.

Well said..........

............now go look in the mirror and reflect upon your remarks with your opinions towards the Sprinter.

Every time someone does have a legitimate complaint about the Sprinter, you're the first one to give a long drawn out lecture about how great the Sprinter actually is.

Again, reflect upon your own opinions when you have such an opinion towards "others" opinions. Your "conclusions" may come back and bite you in your rear. IE - Your quote above clearly reflects most of the lecturing you have done on the Sprinter here recently.

The difference being..Turtle or any of us satisfied Sprinter owners do not say Ford or GM people are crazy or nuts for owning one....like some do to us....If Ford or GM made what I wanted I would consider them but till that time I'll continue on.....

No need. My remarks toward the Sprinter are honest and pragmatic, as are my remarks towards a Ford. I've owned both and am loyal to neither. Each has their pluses and minuses.

Now you're just making stuff up. That's about as false of a statement as I've read on here in a while. A legitimate complaint is just that, legitimate, but most of the complaints from so-called Sprinter bashers are anything but legitimate. And I'm rarely the first to post a reply giving a long drawn out lecture about how great the Sprinter is. My comments about the Sprinter are rarely emotional or designed to be misleading, but are more pragmatic about what needs to be done or about the approach one needs to take when dealing with a Sprinter.

Give me one example of where I derided or berated a non-Sprinter owner for owing the van of their choice. You can't. You can't because I haven't done it. I don't care whether or not someone has a particular vehicle. It doesn't effect me in the least. My conclusions are based upon reality, my own experiences, and on the observations and comments of both experienced Sprinter mechanics and expediters. It's not difficult to come to the conclusions I have reached, and it is highly unlikely that they will come back and bite me in the butt.

I bought a Sprinter because I got tired of three things: (1) having to break down skids, primarily those auto freight skids, and then rebuild them inside the van, and then reverse the process at delivery, because they were half an inch too tall to fit through the door, (2) not being able to sleep while loaded (I had a short wheelbase Ford), and (3) doing everything on my knees. Primarily, I wanted the ability to stand up in the van. Everything else doesn't matter. From my perspective, those who want to live on their knees, a Ford is the way to go. But I don't think they're stupid for wanting to do that.

Do I think everyone should have a Sprinter? Absolutely not. A Sprinter requires a different and unique commitment, in many areas and on many levels, which is far different from that of a Ford or other cargo van. Those who cannot or will not make that commitment should have nothing to do with a Sprinter. There are tradeoffs regardless of which vehicle you have, be it living on your knees in exchange for easier and more traditional maintenance, to more load opportunities and revenue potential in exchange for higher maintenance costs and the regulations of a straight truck.

People should drive whatever vehicle they want to drive, and should do so for their own reasons. But someone who makes a comment born of ignorance or stupidity, in an evangelic attempt to influence others, I'm gonna call them on it, especially those who are married to their ignorance and stupidity.

I have personally met some of these Sprinter lovers; OVM, Turtle and Rlent. On the surface all seem to be normal expediters and human beings. Both OVM and Turtle talk funny, ya you betcha, with the former being an ex Canuck and the latter being from Kentucky. Arlent talked normal and I know normal when I hear and see it, but he did have a funny blue light blinking just below his earlobe. I do suspect the lot of them to be closet Nazis though!

You just said that all of us Ford drivers need to invest in a pair of knee pads!!

Yeah! What Turtle, OVM and Rlent said.

We buy what works best for us.

This is America dontcha know?

Land of the free...

That means nobody forced you to buy, or not buy, any particular brand.

Instead of bashing Sprinter owners your time would be better spent researching what you could do with a GM or Ford chassis as opposed to just buying whatever is sitting on a dealers lot.

Hopefully (Please Dear Lord) my next GM unit will be ready the first week of March. This makes my 4th GM purchase since 2006 and it has taken me many painstaking hours of trial and error to get what I believe is the right combination that meets my needs.

And I just shoveled my driveway for the third time today here in Dayton. Another 6-9 inches on top of the 12 inches that are already on the ground from last week.

David, I don't know if GM still has it but once you could log onto a customer service site and actually track your vehicle - from order to delivery at the dealer - you should ask your dealer about that.

Greg,

I contacted the plant manager at Wentzville.

They were very helpful in tracking down the rail car, getting it off loaded and on to a truck.

I was referring to the delivery date from the upfitter as the chassis has been delivered to them. Now I am awaiting their production cycle.
