FEDEXCC

Laura,
Well we are all stupid people; we work as independent contractors who for the better part are pretty much on their own. I am not defending FedEx CC; they seem to be the same as most when it comes to some issues.

Compassion, most of us have a lot of compassion and help when we can to a point. I commend the people who are helping you with this problem.

I heard all kinds of stories, both good and bad. This is one of the bad ones, which I am sorry to hear but what can I do about it? I can listen to you; keep in mind what you are saying so if I am in that situation I will know what you gone through.

All I know is that my contract with them spells out that my responsibilities are clear; I have an obligation to get the load to the destination, intact and on time. If I have an accident, my obligation is to get that load to another truck so it can be delivered is another obligation. As an independent contractor FedEx CC, for that matter all the companies don’t have any obligation to me beyond that point. They don’t have to provide help; they don’t have to help others who helped for that matter they don’t have to do a thing. This is the nature of our profession – like it or not. Do I expect them to help? Of course not, but it would be nice. Will I hold it against them if they don’t? Nope not a bit. Going into this with this attitude will help people in the long run.

My experience is the larger the company the shorter their memory. I mean I worked for a company a lot larger than FedEx and I had a lot of exposure to upper management, saved the company millions and did a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure the company did not have problems with customers. All of this did not matter, I was just a number and unless I had the ear of the guy at the top or his advisors, I didn’t exist. FedEx CC seems to be the same which is not a bad thing – it is the nature of the beast. I can’t tell you how frustrated I am with a couple things, something’s that I know can be improved on but I have to live with it. It may not work for me, but it does for most.

Your gripe is not really with the company but with individuals within the company.

Good luck with everything, hope all turns out well.

Name-calling does not win arguments or solve problems -- and neither does the excessive use of bangs (exclamation marks).

Let's look at several points:

The handles of "truck4305," "Top2," and "Lrader" are all brand-new -- created on the 15th, 16th, and 17th, respectively.

The notes from "truck4305" and "Top2" appear to have come from the same person.

I see several stylistic characteristics common to them.

I also suspect that the note from "Lrader" came from the same person -- or at least that it was strongly influenced by the first writer.

Some of the same stylistic elements appear in that one too, although it also shows some different ones.

(Please recognize that I have many years of experience in detecting similarities in exam answers and term papers.)

I further suspect that all four of those notes came from the person using the handle "Lrader."

The first note alleged that nobody in the WG Division or elsewhere at FedEx CC had contacted the team in distress, and that they "would not help in any way at all."

The second note from "truck4305" added an unrelated gripe about border crossings.

All four of those notes are suspicious from the outset.

The first one discusses an incident involving "a good friend."

It contains a tone of involvement, certitude, and accusation.

The following notes continue that tone.

They all seem to try to grind an ax.

Not the least consideration is that they contain self-contradictions.

The note from "Lrader" makes it clear that the real complaint -- the allegation of no help from the company -- centers on a refusal by the company to reward the rescue truck from Denver -- a refusal to reload that truck ahead of other trucks waiting in the queue.

Sooo -- the present allegation is quite different from the original allegation.

The rescue driver from Denver and the owner are commendable for their wish to help.

But that's a one-way trip of 916 miles.

And they did that voluntarily on their own initiative.

Yet I see several other better, quicker, easier, less expensive solutions for dealing with the cargo-handling gear.

There may well be one or more reasons for which the company workers in Green may have declined to participate in that particular solution.

The whole thing just does not have the ring of credibility.

Above all else, perhaps, throughout all those four notes, the tone of belligerence dilutes and discounts whatever validity they may contain.

Again: Name-calling does not win arguments or solve problems.

As always, best wishes to all,

Doc.

My 2 cents, back in the Roberts days we were on a trip from Cleveland into Mississippi. At about 0600 near Memphis a driver for Land Air fell asleep and rammed us at about 85 MPH. The impact caused the rear of the truck to lift off the ground and wind up on his front hood. He woke up ,and slammed on his brakes. Good old D 1564 came off his hood ,hit the ground and I even with the seat belt on slammed into the roof of the cab. Wife was in the sleeper and was OK.

To make a long story short, another truck came out for the load. D 1564 was driveable but had no rear lights. Roberts Safety came on very strong that I should go to a Hospital to get checked out. They said they would pay for any procedure that was not covered by insurance. I went to Baptist East off I 240 in Memphis and was x rayed and checked over.

When we came back to the truck there were 3 messages on the Q/C as too how we were doing and to please call in. I called in,gave a report and they said,"Please take the rest of the day off,go to a decent motel and we will pay for it", which they did.

I was able to get home and the following week I had several calls from both dispatch and safety as too our overall conditions.

So maybe things have changed, somehow I doubt it. I like to think of the folks at FedexCC as a extended family. Sometimes we don't always get along but when the chips are down we are here for each other.

After thought, the driver that fell asleep was an extremely decent and honest man. When the State Police arrived he told the trooper that "It was 100% my fault as I fell asleep and crashed into that man".
