I quess when they said they were taking on the cheaper LTL freight, I quess they were serious. This may be the reason the need 400 extra CC trucks. Who is going to take the unprofitable runs that aren't feasible with company drivers?
I think they are thinking of the "little people"
Drivers will get maybe more miles, but at a cheaper rate.
I will say that it should be a good move for shareholders.

Methinks my friend DaveKC is inappropriately and prematurely speculating the demise of "the little people" because of The FedEx acquisition of Watkins. We little people, and those more astute and informed than us, know nothing more than that an article has stated that FedEx is going to announce that it will acquire Watkins.

We need to wait for more facts before we confuse the issue, particularly for those folks anticipating entering this business. We shouldn't be scareing off the good people with forecasts of doom and gloom.

You are right. I was thinking too prematurely. I was putting previous info with the proposed new, and that would be unfair since it hasn't happened at this point.
It is only speculation.

Well, at one time Roadway Service's owned part of Walkins, Coles, Viking, Spartan, Central, Roberts Express, MedQuick, Auto Quick, RPS,TPS And a few others That I can't remember. All the trucks was on the front page of the share holders report. And who owned Roadways service's? Roadway did, but you never heard much about that.
Then Roadways spun off Roadway Service's and change the name to Caliber Systems which was later bought by FedEx Corp.
