UPS is also hiring quite a few for pkg handling, driver helpers, etc. Some retailers sitting on low inventories and will have lots of last minute goods delivered. Also, internet purchases expected to be higher.

Small package carriers will do well in the holidays but Fed Ex ground is down and laid off line haul drivers. At least in my area.
A neighbor of mine with over ten years was laid off for a while and has not returned yet.

Goofing around on the net today and used allofcraigs.com and crazedlist.com (these sites allow you to search many craigslist cities with one search) and was amazed when I searched for fedex under the jobs heading. MANY jobs out there for fedex drivers..ground, home, freight, custom critical, CDL A, CDL B, helpers, seasonal, dedicated..on and on across the country.

Somewhat miss leading, most will be hired by contractors. Remember what the id badges say" not an FedEx employee. I just hope the contractors make money.

The rate of seasonal hiring by FedEx, UPS and other companies that add temporary workers for the holiday rush is one of many economic indicators. To know if this FedEx number is good news or not, we must know how the number compares to previous seasons and other numbers by other companies.
