FedEx Custom Critical

I just got some info from FedexCC and it says you have to PAY FEDEX upfront fees?
$2000 startup
$300 for a qualcom phone plus $30 a week
$500 approx for signage
$100 drug test and report fees
$Insurance through their company only?

I know I am new, but is this normal?
I found a CLass C truck is only making $50K per year minus gas, etc.
Sounds like a job flipping burgers to me. especially considering lease/purchase costs, maintenance etc.
Any comments?
Just on a note I quoted 5 pallets of 800lbs each from los angeles to san jose and they quoted me $1100, 390 miles, the drivers get about 1.16 per mile which is $452, incl fuel surcharge.
Would you guys call this average pay?
Not bagging on fedex, just trying to find some info on expediting.

I am not with FXCC so this is subject to correction by someone with them. Base pay to the truck is 54.5% of the charge for the run. In your scenario of $1100 that would be $599.50. If the truck displays the FXCC signage on the cargo box it is paid an additional 0.5% for 55% or $605. If the owner elects to have FXCC install and supply the QC the pay is increased another 3% for 58% or $638 in this case. FSC would be additional I believe. Subject to correction I believe your scenario of $1100 for 390 miles would pay $638 to the truck for $1.635 per mile.

Startup expenses are common with most carriers. Generally they are taken out of settlements over the first dozen or so pay periods. The drug test usually has to be paid up front as well as the physical if a new long form is required. Everything else is generally payroll deducted. I'd be surprised if signage is $500 as that seems ridiculously high but then again some companies are ridiculous in their charges. FXCC is better than most on QC charges at $25 a week versus the usurious $35 a week most others gouge their contractors with.

PAY ATTENTION ALL YOU COMPANY OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES LURKING HERE! YOU ARE ROBBING OWNERS AT $35 A WEEK FOR QC AS WELL AS A COUPLE OF YOUR OTHER ONLY MARGINALLY LEGITIMATE DEDUCTIONS!

I'm sure if my percentages are no longer correct we'll hear from someone with the current numbers but that should be pretty close if not exact.

Knowing a company pays a bonus for qualcomm seems like it can even it out for the driver and company. So I pay $30 a week for qualcom, means I have to bill $1000 a week to break even. On the above run it almost covers it. I am looking for alot of info on FXCC to see if it makes sense. I also notice trucks have to be less than 5 years old, and Class A-Hazmat, which the CLass A does not make sense if you are running a Class C truck.

As for the 500 dollars for the decals.....just remember me if you need those removed....that sounded like a really good deal to me..for the installation.

The local shops here would have charged 3500.00 or so for those big Fed Ex CC decals to be designed/ installed.
