Some roof supports, an Onan , and a roof top and you'll be good to go.
Under $15,000.
Or,Jeff Jones would love to take an M-2 in trade....

LOL!! No new trucks for me. Not interested in the new engines for a LONG time. Under 15K? LOL! I can buy a LOT of motel rooms for that kind of money.

Couple different things. With regards to installs, it is better to have to duct work routed to where the vents are at the top. AC works better. As mentioned, the R132 systems are much better than the R12 systems with regards to AC.
On the coolant side, they should use silcone hoses with compression clamps (Some don't). Should eliminate most leaks. Also, it is recommended to have seperate taps on the lines that go to it in case of a failure. That way you won't lose more than a gallon of engine coolant. In that truck we carry two gallons for a "just in case".

I don't know if they are silicone hoses as you say. When the head gasket blew, not sure if the head is cracked, I was sleeping. Lost 1.5 gallons. I have taps to shut down. They are useless when you are sleeping AND the engine did not shut down when is over heated.

I know the R132 is better but it is still only 12,000BTU. I am likely going to fix this. I have been complaining about the gasket for a while, and shops kept saying it was OK. It was not. The latest shop, who charged me $985 for the LAST repair that did not work and only lasted 3 weeks is working with me on the price of THIS repair. 3

BTU is a component, but insulation and where the duct is routed are equally important. I am surprised the unit didn't shut down from the excessive heat and loss of coolant. You would have thought one of the two sensors would have activated. No answer to that one. As for replacing a head gasket, may want to consider Scotts just because the labor rate is less. Should be a straight forward repair assuming no other damage.

Forgot to mention, if the vents are at the floor, worth the money to buy a small fan and point it towards to the ceiling.

It is at Scott's, they are also the ones who did not fix it 3 weeks ago.

I use two fans and I also have a homemade 'duct' that I use to move AC into the cab, at the top. One outlet in the sleeper is high up the other about half way up.

Did they do a gasket job three weeks ago?

No, they tightened some clamps and replaced an oil pressure switch. I told them that the gasket and/or head was bad, they said no.

That time I took it in I had a crankcase full of thick, black sludge. I was losing coolant by the gallon. It over heated and shut down. Again, while I was asleep.

THIS time, it over heated, the oil was sludge to the point where none could be put in and it did NOT shut down.

I am NOT a happy camper.

Certainly sounds like a mess. Should have done a few pressure and compression tests on it. Hard telling what direction to go until they see what is damaged.

One other item. If AC isn't keeping up, I have seen a few using one of those indoor units in conjuction with the actually unit. Not a perfect solution, but cheap.

I don't know what is going on. I hear one thing from one tech and something different from another.

The head comes back from testing tomorrow. I sure hope that they do a REALLY good job of cleaning that goo out of my engine or it will just mess up again.

Two times with the goo is one too many.

Last chance time now.

I would be worried about what the coolant in the oil did to the bottom end of the motor.
Bearings, maybe the rings. Cover all the bases and ask all the ? And get them to put Anything they say they checked and is ok in writing. At this point, I would trust nothing.

Whats a new engine cost ? With the cost and aggravation of downtime it would be something I'd be looking at. May not be too bad with a $900+ credit from the last botched repairs.

Hey Layout, it looks like they were wrapping it up last night. Mine was right next to yours when I was there getting the POS Rigmaster fixed. Again...

There will come a day when that thing comes off the truck and I take it to a field with a couple of sledge hammers and recreate the great scene from "Office Space".

They have not called me yet. Did not know you were in the area. Would have met up with you.

Engine Sludge - YouTube heat and lack of oil change intervals kill engines, imho

Not in this case. The oil is changed as required. The sludge was caused by the mixing of the 'red' antifreeze and the oil when the head gasket blew. There was never any sludge prior to that. The engine also failed to shut down when it did over heat due to the lack of oil.

When it is all said and done, please let us know on how you feel about Scott's. I have had my trucks in there 3 times. I am not sure if I will go back if I can find something better.

Scott's used to be the 'go to place' for work. The quality of their work has been sliding down hill of late. I have yet to get the bill on this work.

Reading this thread with great Interest as Ill be buying an APU with the new truck in October, so who uses what, whats Best, is there a Preferred model, if you had your druthers what would you use, I can see the cost savings of Generator over APU, I think Ive looked at some Units with Yanmar Diesels which are primarily installed in Boats, one thing I know about Generators and Power units from the past, get it bigger then you need.

I had an issue at Scott's, and after a pretty detailed e-mail, all I got back was were are sorry, but we have added a third shift and everything is not up to snuff yet... But no offer to make things right, or a discount to help pay for my troubles. I was hoping for better. Back to looking... Is there any other good shops in the Detroit/Toledo area that anyone might suggest?
