There were several EO members in attendance. We have always been amazed by how awesome these events are. FedEx Custom Critical really goes overboard recognizing the safety winners. Our hats are off to Nina who organizes this event as everything flows smoothly. The organization of events allows all who attend to have plenty of free time for those that want to lay on the beach all day or for those that want to have every minute filled with an activity. We were able to spend one day out on a Catamaran with other drivers and also one day out on air boats. Bob and I finally were able to ride a bike for two which was great fun. These events are always filled with a first time to try new things and we take full advantage of it.

This question always will be asked also yes there were several t-val trucks there, several white glove trucks there, several teams and solos there, and yes there were people from all over the country and Canada. It does seem as if there is a pretty nice balance between Express and White Glove trucks. There also does not appear to be any one group dominates over another. This year at least half of the group was first time winners.
Sure is hard to leave the Ritz and face the real world but as of June first I am sure there are many working towards next year’s cruise to celebrate ten years of 4-Star events.

We were one of the first time winners and really enjoyed getting to meet other drivers who are upbeat and positive and even still excited about driving after all these years.

I wish we had some way of identifying the fellow EO Members at something like that.

Wasn't there a forum member that, against all odds, managed to win this prestigious award as a rookie?

Hmmm, seems like I recall something like that?

Maybe we should come up with our own hand sign like the street gangs do. Then when at these events or a truck stop you can "throw it up" as they say, and maybe bark like a dog rather loudly. Then if there are any other EO members around they will know who you are rollin with. Sorry I grow up 2 miles from West Memphis,AR I couldn't pass that up. Again just a joke. OVM don't walk around the Expo barking and growling. :)

Oh yeah, congrats to all the award winners. Maybe you can explain what all is involved in achieving this type of recognition by your carrier.

The FedEx Custom Critical 4-Star award is a safety award with 0 tolerances of preventable accidents. To qualify you must have 70% Acceptance of loads, 70 % Availability for the year. You have to have a 98% on time delivery and pickup. The contest runs from June 1st to May 31st there are usually 200 to 300 truck that make this list, the tie breaker is who has hauled the most loads. The divisions are E units - C/D units - B Units and a percentage is taken from each group.

Contrary to popular belief you do not take just cheap loads or you will quickly go broke. The multiple winners have learned what loads to accept and not accept good areas of the country to stay in and also if a load is taken out of these areas how to get back into the freight zones. I would say that most if not all O/O that win are pretty smart business people and are very savvy on load acceptance.

The group that is at the 4-Star events are fascinating to talk to as they all have definite goals, a business plan and have very interesting backgrounds. It is fun to watch first year winners as most of the time there is a look of amazement on their faces as they attend the various events sponsored by FedEx Custom Critical, the event is a prestigious and it is treated that way throughout everything your stay. After you have attended one event it is very easy to see why you will try to achieve it again the next year.
