40' is the limit to be able and run all states.
Actually, you can get away with much more than that out west. Check the front section of you're atlas.

Well, I was supposed to take a one way load from Spring City, TN to Columbus, OH last Monday morning that ended up turning into a round tripper...I've been sitting here in Crossville, TN since last Tuesday morning and not a single call. I'm not even going to bother calling in because on Sat when I called after sitting for 4 days it seemed like they were ticked b/c I called in to see if anything was happening. Well...It's Sunday, tomorrow is another holiday and still nothing. I'm getting seriously aggravated. Only so much sitting this guy can take. LOL
Or there's always Birmingham....lol...
At least i had a 1500 mile week before my Alabama vacation so the bills are paid lol
There ya go, it feels nice, doesn't it? To have that peace of mind?..I have a little wiggle room right now, but not for long....

When I was a truck hauler, using a 53'+ lowboy,we got measured often. People got busted monthly.
As an expeditor,not yet.
Really don't expect to be.
If you do get caught, what's there to do with a straight ? Usually not much to adjust.
Anyone remember when North Carolina had a 35' length limit on straights back around 1992? They started enforcing it in 95, and were racking up the tickets on expeditors....like previously said, if overlength, what can ya do?.....
