for custom purposes it might be logistically easier to pipe the import paperwork thru one dealer and but they never actually see that dealer.
neither are the transits....only the assembly in KC....transit parts come from around the world, with the diesel engine made in S. Africa....

So, you are saying Ford has a engine plant in South Africa?
This is a review of the Transit from ClayComo.
Ford makes the Diesel engine.

3.2 I5 Power Stroke diesel

The most noteworthy thing about this Ford-made engine is that it's not unusably anemic. I mean, it doesn't let you forget it's a diesel — put the pedal to the floor and the engine will turn around, raise an eyebrow at you, then make a little more noise. But compared to other oil burners it would be an easier engine to transition to from gasoline.

The rest of the vehicle's attributes have more to do with size and payload preparation than engine output.

Well he we are in beautiful South Central Michigan. 58°, turned on the AC, nothing but warm air. First thing to go wrong on 10 month old van with 96K miles. Hopefully low Freon if I'm lucky.

Add to that my "new" cold/sinus infectionwhich Mrs had the last 2 weeks before me, and I before her, and she before me. You see where this is going?

At Ford’s Struandale engine plant in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, yes. The 2015 KC Transit version is an update to the 2011 Duratorq inline-five engine has already been powering the Transit and the Ranger in overseas markets, but has been specially adapted for the US emissions regulations. The Duratorq engine itself for 2015 is a second generation with emissions, fuel economy and other improvements, and the KC version has additional adaptations.

Ford dropped the Duratorq name in favor of its more manly Power Stroke moniker in hopes of aligning the five-cylinder diesel with the popular and manly Power Stroke V-8 diesels currently found in Ford’s full-size pickups. The Struandale plant makes those engines (including a 2.2 liter 4-cylinder model) for the KC plant, the Silverton Assembly Plant in Pretoria, SA, the Chennai plant in India and JMC in China, as well as machining many of the the engine parts for export to the Pacheco assembly plant in Argentina and the AAT facility in Thailand.
