Favorite stretch of road

I found a great streach the other night. Was on a load going from Greenfield, IN to Shenadoah, Iowa. Took I-70 to 435 then to I-29 north of Kansas City. Got out at exit 92 and took US 59 to Shenadoah. When I went the other night it had just got done pouring rain all day. The moon was full and down this road for many miles you will not see a street light nor a light from a house. The moonlight was lighting up everything and it was bright. With all the rolling hills this was one of the coolest drives I was on in a while. All I had to do was dim the lights, turn off my radio and everything else and look outside. Pretty cool stuff. Even in the winter

Hwy 152 going East out of Gilroy, Ca, garlic capital of the world toward Banos, Ca. Especially at the end when you come up on the reservoir, with all the boats on it. A regular oasis in dry country.

And did I mention Barstow to Bakersfield? hwy 50 something or other.

Yes DCalien,

I was on 152 EB out of Gilroy the other day. I was coming down the hill and I saw parking areas and paths down to the reservoir. I slowed up and was able to turn in and it was beautiful. My dogs and I spent the next three hours along the water and climbing hills. It was a beautiful drive and a great place to stop and relax for a while!

What a great question!
I can't remember the road we were on since it has been a couple of weeks but it was a highway through Arkansas (YES ARKANSAS!) but it was not an interstate. It was the most beautiful green mountains with golf courses on both sides of the road. What a beautiful sight! I love the mountains.

It's absolutely beautiful and reminds me of lake Milton in Ohio which you can see nicely off I-76. Wy SR-59 to SR-387 to I-25 hundreds of pronghorns and a good cutover to I-25 South(provided by Wy dot). Also US-20/26 to Riverton then US-26 to Thermopolis then US-26 to US-19 to Buffalo Wy( all truck routes and excellent mountian senery) Routed this way while we were at Conway Now. Latest mountian routing was empire grade out Santa Cruz 18 miles to the end, a great two lane drive in the d unit,8-11% grades lots of redwoods and million dollar views(and homes) you must return by same route as other roads out of area were steep grades and narrow roads.

For me any stretch of road can be a favorite at a specific point in time. Much depends on the time of day, time of year, weather, what I am driving and my state of mind.

I drove a stretch of 2 lane highway through the Big Horns from Ten Sleep to Buffalo over the Powder River Pass. Great fun on a motorcycle! I may not have enjoyed it as much had I been in a big truck.

Normally I wouldn't find any beauty where I-355 and I-88 run together. But one rainy November evening I was stopped in the usual rush hour traffic. I was headed to Joliet for a layover and an early morning pickup. So making time was of no concern to me.

I took in the beauty of the thousands of tail lights and headlights that reflected off the wet pavement all around me. Quite a sight! Had I been rushing to a pickup or delivery this scene probably wouldn't have seemed so picturesque.

I love coming into Coeur d'Alene also. Very pretty. Of course any town looks beautiful after spending time in Wallace.

I guess maybe my most favorite stretch of road is the stretch I haven't seen yet.

I'm with you there, but the longer I do this those stretches are dwindling fast. I went from Phoenix to Flagstaff recently on a sunny day and really enjoyed that, especially the part just coming out of Phoenix. I-40 across New Mexico and Arizona and that stretch of California before you get to I-15 can be quite scenic. The Mass. Turnpike can be nice at the right time of day/year, if you can forget about what the tolls are costing you.
