Father "Punishing" Daughter - Or - Father "Beating" Daughter?

Thank you for providing this evening's entertainment (and no, I'm not talking about the video - I had already watched it about 24 - 36 hours ago)
My opinion:
A. The above admission may explain quite a alot ....
B. You and your siblings (if they feel similar to you) should seriously consider voluntary abstention from reproduction and child rearing, so as to avoid contamination of such warped thinking to the remainder of the human species ....
Based on the data available (which is incomplete at best, scant at worst), there is no way this girl "deserved" the sadistic dramatizations of a clearly unbalanced individual who is incapable of controlling himself.
And this 'tard is a judge y'all elected down there .... seriously ?

You say that ..... and then turn right around 180 degrees at the end of your post and suggest that is exactly what she needs some more of .... un-frickin-believable ....

I'm sure you have no doubt considered much other info that we and the media are all unaware of, and have resolved any lingering questions. Here's a few that come to my mind just off the top of my head - please enlighten us all with what you know of these matters:
What did the recent harassment that she alleges was directed at herself by her father actually consist of ?
Is there any merit to her allegations ?
Any corroboration of it from third parties ?
Do you think that there might be anything "Daddy" is trying to conceal when he threatened to put the fix in to get custody from the mother of her younger sister ? (10 years old ?)
About Mom's little comment about Dad's "addiction" which she did not elaborate on ..... I wonder what that is all about - can you shed any light ?
As pointed out by cheri: it was a press release statement by "Dear Old Dad" - who is now being forced to cover his tracks for this and other similar behavior ..... and Lord-knows-what-else .....
As for Pop's perspective on what this is all about - it's totally clear from his following statements:

Certainly, if the minor stuff above is all she has to overcome and deal with on a daily basis, she undoubtedly must be a complete lazy deadbeat mooch ... who, for the sake of mere vanity, is just unwilling to subject herself to the minor occasional ridicule and perhaps constant embarrassment she might suffer while trying to function and fit into mainstream society ....
I mean, afterall, it's completely clear she has a supportive and nurturing father ..... who is there to ..... beat her down ..... errr ... I mean help .... her every step of the way ...
How dare she consider just working part-time at a video store ..... she ought to aspire to a higher calling - so that Daddy might be relieved of the utterly horrible burden he's having to bear .... of taking responsibility and caring for the disabled child he brought into this world.
Maybe she should be an Olympic athlete .... with a subsequent career in professional sports, earning a six-figure salary ?

Aside from the fact that you are advocating the physical beating of a grown, adult 23 year-old woman .... who is likely a US citizen, who has rights .... and has not been found guilty of any crime ..... it may just be that physical violence at an early age is the very thing caused this poor souls current LIFELONG condition .....

Honestly.....Beating, Punishment, or whatever, I just have NO SYMPATHY whatsoever for this little girl BECAUSE of the way she decided to throw this video out to the public. If this was that much of an issue to her in regards to what happened to her in her youth, why wait til 7 years later, and as an adult woman, Cerbral Palsy or not, to throw this out to the public??
I still stick with my original opinion. This was a butt-whuppin' by an angry father, not a beating. I'm betting there are Thousands and Thousands and Thousands of Kids out there that grew up before this PC World we live in today that received the same Butt Whuppins when they were growing up. Sure, I received Butt Whuppins like this in my youth, and am quite the astute adult today that anyone would expect. (Of Course, I'm not locking the Cat in the dryer all day anymore - deserved butt whuppin. I don't throw dirt clods at cars going down the street while hiding in the alley anymore - deserved butt whuppin. Etc) I have no phsycological issues, am not a deviant, have been quite successful, and am just a normal everyday guy.
This Little Girl made this video available to the Public in a VINDICTIVE move to harm her father. Period, plain and simple fact. This is something that could have been handled during Family Counseling, with their Phsychiatrists, or other venues within the last 7 years.
Now, if this little girl was 16 today, and this punishment was enacted last week, I might, just might, have an opinion that this is totally wrong and hope the family seeks immediate help. BUT, after listening to this "Grown Lady" in the couple of interviews she's given over the last couple of days over this, I just cannot show any sympathy towards her. Yes, she is on a vindictive quest to destroy her father because of what all's been going on lately. I bet she hasn't had a belt tanned to her hide in years, so why is it an issue now???

Glad to know I'm surrounded by junior Freuds here in the soapbox. Please invite him to lay on the couch, so the EOPS (ExpeditersOnline Psychological Society) can get to the root of the matter.
It doesn't take a degree in Psyche to read body language that SHOUTS, especially when it's accompanied by verbal language that corroborates it: the judge has some issues of his own regarding anger management and appropriate parenting.
He beat her. He might've gone too far. But what's too far according to the law? According to society? According to the youtube junkies?
The prosecutor in Tx has said it would have been prosecuted had the statute of limitations not run out, so the law is clear.
As to opinions: community standards apply. IOW, what most average people would find offensive - and the fact is most average people find this demonstration of parental discipline offensive. Because the perpetrator is a judge in Family Court, it goes beyond offensive to outrageous: THIS man is entrusted with deciding who is fit to be a parent?!
You people look at one video, and that's enough to condemn.
Yes, it is enough to condemn the specific words and actions shown in that specific incident - because the man committing them is a public official, elected and paid by taxpayers, responsible for passing judgement on the parenting fitness of others. If he were a plumber, it wouldn't matter as much - though most would still find it offensive.
The fact is we know very little about this family. He could very well be a bad father. He could be fed up that he has a daughter with no conscience, and nothing he does seems to matter.
But it doesn't matter to the public... nor should it.
How can a consensus of community standards be arrived at, if what people do doesn't matter?
People love to see in the lives of others... to likely help them to forget how sucky their own lives really are.

In her own words, she wants him to get help, not punishment. She has said that consistently, and it has been corroborated by her mother, as well.
Why didn't she do it at the time? My guess would be that right after the clip we saw, the computer [which the judge blamed for her actions, and stresses he hadn't wanted in the house to start with] was taken away from her - ya think?

Althought it's only MHO, there may be more to this story than we're getting from CNN. Still IMHO there a few things that don't seem to add up, and I doubt we can depend on CNN to offer an objective offering of the facts. Just to play Devil's Advocate for a bit:
- Granted, this guy shouldn't have been whipping a 16 year-old with a belt. By that age there are more effective methods of discipline.
- The guy is obviously out of control in that recording - the family should have insisted he get anger management treatment then - not seven years later.
- If her abuse was so bad at that point in time, why did she wait all this time to come forward with the recording - especially posting it on YouTube. If she was so concerned about getting dear ol' dad some help (as she claimed in her interview) she and her mother could have taken the recording to the county officials.
- Does she really have Ataxic Cerebral Palsy? She's claiming to have had it since birth, so this nonsense about "shaken baby syndrome" is just unfounded speculation to add fuel to the fire. In the interview she gave she certainly didn't sound like someone with CP, and the way she moved around in the video clip didn't look like someone physically handicapped. Maybe there's some confirmation of her condition out there other than just her claim.
Pilgrim: there could be truth to almost everything you wrote - except for questioning her claim of ataxic cerebral palsy. [Ataxic means spastic movements, BTW]. If she made that up, don't you think 'dear old dad' would have mentioned that?
It's always hard to understand why abuse victims don't speak out, or speak out sooner - there's a lot of reasons for it, and most aren't easily accepted if you've never been a victim yourself.
Maybe she's just an ingrate - but maybe she is hoping to prevent it from happening to her 10 year old sister. We'll never know the real motives, and they don't really matter, do they? Does it change what her father did?
It's always hard to understand why abuse victims don't speak out, or speak out sooner - there's a lot of reasons for it, and most aren't easily accepted if you've never been a victim yourself.
