Quick question here...
We finally got EZ Pass... so is it good to go on Ohio & Indiana Turnpikes yet?
Heard a rumor.. don't want to fly through spending too much dough already!

Indiana does except EZ Pass but Ohio does not at this time. Ohio is moving that way though.

Not if they need to, but if they get a warrant. If they are a private company and drivers start getting tickets based on any kind of "pass" they'll be out of business fast. I know Prepass is private and im pretty sure EZ Pass is too. Personally I wish there were no passes due to there being no TOLLS. I thought fuel tax was for roads....

What gave you that crazy thought, PV?

Is that like NYS Thruway tolls being in place to retire the bond debt that was issued to build the system? Oh, wait a minute....they were retired in 1997.

Back door tax, I say. Taxation without representation. Anyone know a retired attorney that wants a hobby lawsuit?

Do most companies pay for the tolls or does that come out of your pocket? I avoid toll roads since I have to pay.

FedEx Custom Critical has a partial toll reimbursement program if you are routed on toll roads.

Right or wrong, I am no lawyer, but I heard an I-Pass rep tell a customer that Illinois State Police and DOT can and do check I-Pass to verify logs if needed. I was under the impression that it was just a matter of pulling your account up on a computer from their car. This is one reason I don't get I-Pass.

If you have a cell phone and you use it the records are right there of where you are and what you are doing. You have a ticket for when you get on the toll road and when you get off the toll road that is time stamped.

The times are all ready recorded on any receipt you have in the truck from a fuel receipt to if you buy a drink and keep the receipt. EZ Pass will at least give you discount on many of the roads you travel and will in many places keep you from having to stop and then start out again using more fuel to get rolling.

Ok Love the answers! We own the EZPass, it's not affiliated with our company whatsoever, in fact all EZPass knows is that it's a commercial vehicle, and it's class size for their program., so how could our logs tie in with our ezpass? I mean seriously aren't we under the micro-managed microscope enough already?

If you never have to ugh, um, how do you say it, "adjust" your log book, you don't have to worry about it. Me personally, seem to have to ugh, um, "adjust' mine just about everytime I go to Chicago because of traffic. This is how it ties into your log book if you were to be checked. Receipts??? Never. They may be on my truck somewhere, but will have to be searched to find. Never been asked for one yet.

...and if the customer pays for the tolls. They got me with this one time when I was in the north east. Never again. The same with hazmat, the same with canada. If the customer doesn't pay, I don't haul. If FedEx wants me to haul it because 'this is one of our best customers' then FedEx has to pay it. Sometime they do, sometimes they find another desperate driver.

How many of you take your bill every month and check it?

I have had to deal with the EZ pass people for erroneous charges made on my account a few times.

Also check the rates and the times. I went through one toll booth in Chicago 5 minutes after the hour when they were supposed to lower the rate and they didn't. I made sure I was slow enough to make the toll booth to save money.

If you AREN'T checking your monthly "--pass" statements for mistakes, you had better start...as Greg said, they make mistakes on a regular basis...

one of their fav's is not to register the "in coming signal" as to what "gate" you entered the toll road at...you are then billed from the furthest gate from the gate you are exiting at...its called "orphan exits" and they will also add a $5 service charge per "orphan exit".....

I do, but I have never found a mistake yet. I have I-pass though.

I've had EZ Pass for almost 4 years...narry a mistake ...yet.

Greg..were you on eastern time or central time when the error was made?

Actually I had trouble in both time zones.

The other problem I mentioned is erroneous charges, I had ez pass through PA turnpike and when they charged $115 to my credit card for me going through the PA pike while I was sitting at home, I canceled it. They of course reversed the charge and said it has happened a number of times.

I haven't really needed to have it in the last year.

These systems are managed under different names, it is a good system which all toll companies should take. There are problems here and there like any other RF ID device and most of the problems is with the billing system which not one of them is perfect.

The thing I would love to see is Pre-pass and EZ Pass become national standards, every weigh station and toll system take them.
