Eye Test for older drivers

I have been going through cataract surgery the past few weeks. I had the right eye done in late January and the left done last week. Between surgeries I was outside looking at the full moon and moving my hand to cover one eye at a time as I viewed the moon. Lo an behold the moon was white in color with the repaired right eye but yellow when viewed with the unimproved left eye.

Bottom line, to test for cataracts just look at the moon on a clear night. Is it white or yellow? Both eyes?

I asked the eye doctor and he agreed this was a valid observation. He also told me that he can pick out women in church that have cataracts as they have a tendency to have a purplish or bluish tone to their hair due to a slight cataract caused color blindness. The color looks ok to them.

Hope this helps someone.

you know both my mom and dad had the surgery. mom is 74, dad is 81( he still rides!) they both say their vision improved beyond what they expected.
