what is it express-1's week to be kicked lol

I did 2093 loaded miles and 327 MT miles grossed 2827.10 with FSC. Thats is about 16% Dead head?? and avg. 1.16 for all miles. Not the very best but good for a solo in the slow time of year

1. What type of unit?

2. What is your mpg for the unit?

OVM,

Yes, it may change weekly, but every load during that week runs at the same rate. The O/O's I have spoken with tell me that it does not change weekly either.

My point is that the carrier does not quote the rate and say to the shipper, "Oh, our FSC is only paying 15 cpm for Sprinter vans this week, so that is all we are going to charge you."

That is NOT the way carriers and shippers conduct business.

Some of my loads go at 17 cpm, others at 23 cpm and many first-time customers as high as 45 cpm.

This is the norm in the industry; hence, the manner in which you are being compensated is abnormal. Obviously, you are satisfied, so it really does not matter to you. My comment was to assist those who may be considering the wonderful world of expediting.

Now David hold on there....I do care...it does matter.

There are weeks the national average does not change or very little and hence the FSC stays the same...
I've heard other O/O's say on some loads they only get .08/ mile and as high as .45 in rare cases.

In my case at E-1 the FSC pays 100% of the fuel even at todays cost. As long as I get my 24 mpg. It's NOT supposed to pay all....So WHY wouldn't I be satisfied? therefore being competitive, we can bid on more trips with the likely hood of winning them. from a business view of course.
Another thought ...If my FSC exceeds my actual fuel costs on a trip...is it called a MSC?
Maintainance SurCharge

AND yet another thought....At .25 or more CV's are getting 100 % of the fuel paid for....it's supposed to subsidize the cost...MAYBE thats why some carriers are sitting more then others because the FSC has exceeded the actual costs of fuel???

Sample..500 mile trip
500/24mpg= 21.73 gallons
20.83x 3.15=$65.61

500x .14= 70.00 net surplus $4.39!!

Wow, you must be contracted to a very different type of carrier if they let you bid on freight.

Incidently, you also have another advantage being a team, because anyone who has been expediting freight for longer than 30 days knows that a team will always get an offer first when there are multiple units on the same board. When freight is slow, the 300-500 mile load offers that would normally go to a solo unit, now get shifted to a team unit. It is a logical move for the carrier as they can hope to reposition the team to an area with loads that will generate greater revenues. Yes, the team nets more revenue, but so does the carrier; hence, teams are higher up in the food chain.:)

Please allow me to further clarify my original post. My comments were to assist those who may be considering the wonderful world of expediting as a SOLO owner/operator or fleet driver and to help those who may be struggling finacially at this time.

Considering the huge increase in the number of new (1-2 year old) straight trucks and cargo vans recently listed in the classified ads, I believe it to be imperative that potential O/O's understand all of the compensation aspects before making a decision they may latter regret. ;)

Make sense? Nuff said?

When I said WE I meant the carrier.....shesh...*L*

Yes...Teams are a whole different ball game....and YES solos are getting pinched out....
Is that a bad thing really? Everyone says theres a glut of vans....so fewer out there can't be all bad. So if you and Relent,Turtle and Moot, Hondaking...hold in there, it can only get better. Silver lining to every cloud...:)

Agreed.

Those straight truck drivers who entered the business over the past couple of years are really taking a beating. Fuel prices increased over $1.00 per gallon; tires, oil, and repair costs all increased; additionally, those factors coupled with a huge monthly payment on a new truck have made it impossible for many to continue in the business.

Several times a month, folks will ask me at shipper's or consignee's location, "Do you like doing this for a living?" In fact, on two ocassions within the past few weeks, I have had a car pull up next to me in the Flying J lot in Knoxville and ask me about expediting.

My reply, "Yes, I do like expediting, but it is a tough business; especially if you have been punching a time clock for the past 20 years. You will have a difficult time adjusting, because there isn't anything that is regular in this business." "Oh, and I hope you have about $20,000 in the bank..just in case..." Well, you all know the answer.
