Expediting with a 1 ton pickup...

A friend of mine just purchased a new dodge 1 ton diesel truck. He works construction, but says he is planning on working the truck instead. I told him to check this site out, but I'm not sure if he has been here. Is there any expediting work for pickup trucks? Would a trip to the expediting expo be worth it for him? We live about 2 hours away, so it isn't that far of a drive. I kind of want to go just to go, and if he gets interested I may not even have to drive. So should he go talk to the folks there, or am I barking up the wrong tree all together?

If the pickup had a cap on it he just might get on as a A unit but I wouldn't count on it.

He's planning on buying a gooseneck trailer, not actually hauling stuff in the bed. So you figure he may as well not make the trip to the expo?

Well then what you really are talking about something called "Hotshot Freight"where there is a 1-2 ton pickup and a small flatbed trailer to haul light freight such as pipes ,insulation etc

Yep, that's it. I knew what it was called, but didn't know if there was such freight in the expediting industry. I suppose that is the question I should have asked. Is there hotshot freight in expediting? If so, is it worth the trip for him to go to the expo?

You won't get any information about Hot Shot work at the Expo but it would still be a usefull experience for your friend to attend. If nothing else it will show you what expediting is all about.

Have him check the forums at dieseltruckresource.com . Most hotshotting is based in TX serving the oilfields . There are some hotshotters contracted to companies that make products such as large a/c units that supply regular runs . If he's going to succeed it will take long hours - 70 hour weeks and deadheading will have to be kept to a minimum . DOT loves to pick on 1 tons with goosenecks so it's imperative to check laws of all states operated in .
