Expediting in the West? Any good?

Can a cargo driver make it in the west? Running the 4 corners on up? Any input please? I know some carriers wont even accept you out west unless you’re a team so is that area pretty much a dead area for the business?

In the mid 1800's expediting was excellent out west, especially in California. Wait, that was prospecting. Never mind.

Pony Express had a good gig in the western states for a while. One horsepower rigs, lots of free parking.

If you are out west and want to run the western states, I am sure there are companies that will take you.

Thanks for the input Jefferson, I actually think the last 2 replies are rather funny in speaking with several companies I think some would be the ones that are the stuck in the mode of I have been doing it this way for X amount of years there is no need to go here or there but in actuality there are quite a few companies that are currently working to establish the 4corners mainly Cal & NV IM told the reason being is not the traditional machinery transport and the old way of doing things but that there are many companies out there that need the service expediting offers but need it to run western states on a regular basis granite knowing that things are spread out in the west the very ones that smirk at the idea or question of the west and those who consider themselves cornerstones of expediting and think they are in the forefront of the knowing of all things expediting would be a lil taken back knowing their own company are the very ones who are making great strides in developing the west in my visit to just two of the western states I was shocked to see just as many carriers running the I-10 in AZ as well as I 5 and not just a scattered truck here and a truck there, but your input very much appreciated Jefferson. Oh and not to forget the other funny comments as well.

Come on Tony lighten up, just being guys no harm.
Seems you would be able to make good money around your home base + Jersey + NY...
Short answer its tough even with the super trucks not saying impossible but tough..
I wish they could develop the west more I love it out here.

The west is a bit flat on expediting per se.FEDEX Supply Chain has dedicated reefer work out of Reno(Phiser)but it only pays so so.You can make a living, but lots of dead head.Other then that, there are dedicaterd big truck runs of food and service items that run north south, but again the money is so so.
I had a friend who ran a D uint for W/G for a few years and he did pretty well, again made a living not much more.Lots of transfer loads and short hauls. He enjoyed it as he wanted to stay out of the snow and dealing with long stints away from the Bay Area.
By the way Mr. Tude, you should have let me know you were in town.
Would have had you over to the Hacienda for awesome home made Chinese and a guieded tour of the Bay.Glad you enjoyed our little city and the pictures are great. You did her justice.
Let me know when your coming in next time.

I know when i was with panther running the govmnt stuff i was thinking about getting a house in San Diego or Vegas since I was in that area all the time and couldnt get out back to the west. They were pretty short loads with alot of deadhead though.

This was a question we were glad someone addressed. We live in Eugene, OR and were concerned about getting to/from home when the need to go visit the old homestead arises. We ran team east/west for years and the companies we ran for always had a hard time finding freight to get us to/from the house. Guess that cinches the deal for moving to the Carolinas.

We often go out to California and run up and down the coast. We have down pretty darn good out there. We have got a lot of really good long coast to coast runs out of Washington. Layoutshooter

One good thing I am seeing on EO is that I am hearing of more coast to coast freight this year than I did a year ago on here. That being said, it seems that more and more folks are getting good return trips as well. That being said, that is a loooooong way to run as a solo, even when you have the time to get there.

BTW, I know there is an EO member on here who lives in Californiae. His name is Jack Dixon. I am sure he will pop up soon and tell you first hand info about being based out west.

Jack stays very busy out in that area as a solo and I think he could right a book on how to expedite in the west and win! We also love to get out there and run the loads up and down the coast and always have a lot of fun and dread the beep that sends us back east.

We would actually also consider moving out there to be closer to the freight if there was enough freight to make this feasable.
