Why 5 years/3tanker?? Seems that they would take any warm body that can pass the breathe and walk test. Wonder if they send these guys out in convoy or alone. Some suit probably thinks its like delivering to the local gas station. (Just outrun an RPG and some bad guys with AKs). Interestingly enough, in Vietnam, fuel tankers were always at the end of the convoy. SOP was if a vehicle got hit the one right behind it was to ram it and try to push it off the road. Convoys were generally escorted by APCs and tanks, assorted jeep mounted weapons, as well as Huey and later,Cobra gunships overhead. I know, I saw it on TV.
This is a job that should be handled by the military. And this is the price we pay for gutting the Armed Forces, and voting in gutless politicains, and allowing ourselves as Americans to become soft, self centered, sensual, and stupid. Enough of the political rant. Mail five dollars and I'll send you the tape.

The Iraqis should hire and train their own people. They do a fine job of blowing themselves and everybody else up with great consistancy. We need to declare martial law there, or get out.

Can I bring my own weapons for defence? What type of equipment and can I make "safety modifications"? Will the Company deposit a hazard pay to my account for my family that is rediculously high? Say $150k on top of regular pay? Can I turn down suspect loads?

Hi Pellgrn,
No this wasn't one of the president's companies. It was our vice president's. He was the CEO at Halliburton before becoming the vice president.
According to President Bush, Halliburton got the government contract to go over to Iraq, without the normal bidding procedures, because of two reasons. One was because rebuilding Iraq was an emergency that did not lend enough time to allow for the normal bidding process. Two, there was only one company in the USA that was capable of doing the job, Halliburton.
I think that Halliburton is doing a fine job there. OK, they did over charge the Army tens of millions of dollars for the price of fuel but maybe we should forgive them. The Bush Administration forgave and forgot, so shouldn't we?

Actually this position wouldn't be that bad. Seems to me it wouldn't be much different than laying over for a weekend at the Vince Lombardi service plaza near NYC. Boredom, hot, full of people wearing diapers on their head speaking jibberish, and whenever you leave the truck you have the chance of being killed....lol
