Expediters on Twitter

I recently got active on Twitter and am finding it to be a wonderful resource. If you have not done so already, I invite readers to check it out.

Some EO members now have Twitter profiles. Lawrence McCord is one. Check out his Twitter page photo in which he impersonates an expediter getting a good load.

An Expediters Twibe now exists. An Expedite NOW Twitter page is on its way. There is even an EO Twitter page. Check it out. People are twittering about you right now!

The EO Open Forum will always be the best online place for expediters to connect, talk shop, have in-depth discussions about expediting and enjoy the company of fellow expediters. But for professional business networking and targeted information gathering in the larger trucking and transportation industries, there is nothing like Twitter.

Welcome back Phil.....

Well I am like a lot of people, don't want to deal with the hyper-connective world anymore. For those who like it, knock yourself out. I guess I will remain an techno outcast.

The Twouble of Twitter

Like the guy says in the video, "it seems like Twittering is bragging about your unexceptional life"

We were wondering who that was. Thanks for letting us know. I was in bed. Diane was driving. She waved but that does not matter much in the dark. We normally run with the CB off.

I have no clue if "Twittering" is akin to "Texting" or just talking on the cell while driving. I do know with in the last two weeks a over the road truck driver was charged with three counts of Vehicular homicide. For driving into stopped traffic last fall out side of St Louis. Told the police he was reaching for his cell phone & hadn't noticed traffic had stopped in front of him.

Today's Twitters are often tomorrow's quitters, according to data that questions the long-term success of the latest social networking sensation used by celebrities from Oprah Winfrey to Britney Spears.

Data from Nielsen Online, which measures Internet traffic, found that more than 60 percent of Twitter users stopped using the free social networking site a month after joining.

If 99% of the people who start Twittering quit a short time later, it would suit me just fine. The news feeds and people I follow on Twitter are not the quitters. They are people of substance with valuable information to share. You can verify this by going to my Twitter profile and checking out the people I follow.

Again, Twitter is an amazing resource, especially remarkable for the efficiency with which you can tap into a wide variety of information sources and learn from them. Twitter's 140 character limit provides a magnificent, flame-free stream of Tweets from the people you choose to follow and links to click on if you want to know more.

So what if people quit Twitter? The quitters don't count. The contributors do.

Also, the Nielson study is not the last word on this, by Nielson's own admission:

"On a blog entitled, 'Nielsen's Twitter Research Data Doesn't Tell Whole Story,' Steve Safran wonders why the research did not include some of the other platforms and applications that Twitterers use.

'''What's the big deal?' he asks sardonically. 'According to TweetStats, 40% of the 'Top 10 Twitter Apps' are from services other than Twitter. This is the equivalent of measuring YouTube users without measuring those who watch embedded YouTube videos on other sites or mobile phones.'

When asked why he excluded such a crucial part of the equation, Mr. Martin (of Nielson) said that he had 'constraints on his analytic resources,' but vowed that he was going to follow up as early as last night. 'This has been a huge story, but if I'm wrong, I'll own up to it.'" (Source)

On an overnight run last week (Mon-Tue) we were on I-80 eastbound to I-287 eastbound into New York state. Other than that, we have not recently been in New Jersey.

I'm on Twitter too. I haven't had much time to go through all the various pages and I've found it kind of difficult to locate people and resources, but I've got a decent start and will keep on Tweeting. I don't see it as a just a new fling. I believe it and sites like Face Book will replace the current email and other online communication tools in the future. I believe it is all still evolving.
