Life was hard a year ago.
Up and down the roads I'd go.
Hauling freight both far and near,
that's the way it was last year.

Living in a van, I was,
to earn a living and because,
the road was calling ... hey old man,
the life you love is in your van.

But, how could that be , I said,
with foam and plywood for a bed.
Cold in winter is no fun
and smoldering in the summer sun,
is not for me but still I'd go.
Is there something I don't know?

I left it all behind last year
to be with family and all that's dear.
Why do I miss that old life now?
Because I'm stupid, that's why .... AND HOW!

Haiku written during a holiday weekend:

-----------------------------
Stupid four-wheelers
Clogging up lanes of traffic
Why didn't you fly?
-----------------------------
Look in your mirror
See your camper fishtailing?
That's my bumper, fool.
-----------------------------
Weekend warriors
Clog up the rest areas
When I need to park.
-----------------------------
I see lots from here
A kiss, a fondle, more. You
two should get a room.
-----------------------------
Camper, trailer, boat
Recipe for disaster
Six percent downgrade
-----------------------------
Your brakes are not meant
To stop the extra weight of
Three trailers of toys.
-----------------------------
Nine hundred miles of
traffic. Rush hour all weekend.
Sam, I'm running late.
-----------------------------
A weekend full of
barbecue, camping, sparklers.
Bill of Rights, what's that?

People come here to read what we do.

We have drivers old, young and new.

We have OVM who likes to get a tan.

Delivering freight in his Sprinter Van.

We have ATeam and Diana that drives with pride and Glory.

Ateam posts it all on EO in some great stories.

We have Greg that I would raise my glass to toast.

Because he was the 1st EO member with 10,000 posts.

We have a man that people likes to call and wanting to see.

On EO his is known as the man we call DaveKC.

We have a man that is funny and is really a Toot.

On EO he is known and as the man we call Moot.

Now thanks to Lawrence who started it all.

We have a place to vent and have a ball.

We have a place once a year to go.

In Wilminington , Ohio known as the Expediters Expo.

People come here 24/7 all different times.

But there is no better place then Expediters Online.

Distant mountains covered with snow
fresh with its purest form of white
I am chilled by a rush of wind
but to take this journey I'll go.

These are the seeds I want to sow
I dream of touching this blessed sight.
To come to it as if a friend.
One worthy of getting to know.

This journey gives a chance to grow
to wisen my mind and my sight.
To help balance my inward blend
I'll follow the way of the crow.

I’ll go without the fire's warm glow
even if it takes me all night.
I'll go even as moon ascends.
It will give me an even flow.

She lays upon her lonely bed
wishing her love was home instead
But this life is one we chose
and she knows his love is ere so close

Would that I go back to the road
the closeness shared, the heavy load
the speeding all through the night
as we must get this load right

To share that first coffee cup
and share that food on which we sup
to just reach over and tap his thigh
and on this note, I'll say good night

At one time a buddy and I competed to compose limericks, but I can't remember any of them at the moment.

On the other hand, though it's not trucking related, here's one.

Groundhog Spring

Groundhog day dawned overcast.
Phil looked out and said, "At last.
I see no shadow waiting here.
I can come out and have no fear."
The waiting crowd cried out, "Huzzah!
An early spring will come! Hurrah!"
But winters grip has not been broke;
The people's hope went up in smoke.
Old Phil himself is not concerned;
His predicting pow'r is not yet spurned.
A wise man knows of what it speaks:
Though shadowed day means six more weeks
Is written as a cold hard fact,
The other side takes a different tact.
The prediction is no more than guess;
The promise only five weeks or less.

(I wrote this one year when severe winter weather continued for several weeks after a cloudy Groundhog's Day

Excellent thread.
I love it so..
My belly shook..
I sounded Ho Ho Ho...
Here I sit all broken hearted...
angered one
but creativity started...

For years he sat
In the shadows
Knowing one day
His talents would be
Rewarded
Welcome Hobo,
Glad to see

The different poems are very pretty
and some are just down right witty
I applaud you all for donning prose
and am loving all the words you chose!

We still await the Dreamer Man
so tempt him out if we can
His pen enlightens and amazes
So dear Dale, words on these pages?????:D

I seem to have a writer's block
The brain is simply fried
I've had so much to think about
But I guess it's time I tried!

Running here and running there
Making plans for life
My daughter did just graduate
My son has found a wife..

Empty nest it seems will come
I guess I should be sad
But when I stop to think a bit
It will not be so sad...

Maybe it's time to run away..
Perhaps a change in plans
What if my wife could be convinced
To team drive in my van?

---------------------------

OK.. I'm out of practice.. that's all I got for now LOL.

The sun is up
the cats are fed
I got my lazy self
up and out of bed

I wonder if his wife
has said yes to this life
I let this go for much too long
to praise Dreamer for his song

The bright sunny day does wait
to see if I'll participate
Hmmmm..should I mow?
or should I watch the garden grow?

The bright new leaves
and brilliant sky
It does await
I must say "bye"

It angered me because I know how tough it can be to share one's efforts, and how hurtful it is to be dismissed [which is how I saw the post that made me mad].
I'm very happy to have been wrong - this time! ;)

I was really enjoying the others' entries - in fact, I'd like to put AMonger's first haiku on the back of my truck, lol :D

Once was a driver from Polly
who tried so hard to be jolly
as she drove down the road
as slow as a toad

Dollar signs danced in her head
as she climbed back into her bed
as her head hit the hay
her thoughts of tomorrows pay...$$$$
