Hello,

Could someone explain to me the difference between an expedite move and LTL move. My company pay me differently on expedite move and LTL move. I still cannot figure the difference. They both cost the same. Thank you

The only thing i can think of is that with an LTL move, you're hauling LTL freight, at a highly discounted rate. The Expedite move -- are you talking about an MT (empty) move, here? -- probably pays 20 to 50 cents per mile, after the first 100 miles, which almost offsets your fuel costs.

Since i'm really not sure that this is the answer to your question, i might suggest that you call and speak to someone at your company that can explain the difference -- nothing like the "horse's mouth!" :)

Truckers who except an LTL load are hauling freight for the cost of fuel. They are not making any money. Truckers need to stop excepting these kinds of loads. It's really hurting the industry.
Why should shippers or brokers pay the full rate when they can get some hard up trucker to hall for nothing.

LTL is less than truck load. It is not time sensitive freight and is often moved on a regular basis it's not always discounted but the rate is based on several shipments on one load. Expedited is time sensitive and demands a premeum rate because it is moved from point a to point b direct and not transfed from terminal to terminal. Our little Co. moves expedited freight on our out bound moves and LTL when we can get it to avoid running empty coming home.

There is another advantage for a shipper to use expedited freight vs ltl.In 99% of the time the shipment stays on the same truck for the whole trip thus minimizing damage and loss claims. We frequently haul very delicate and expensive cargo that the shippers don!t want beig slammed around on a Roadway,Yellow Freight terminal break bulk center.Wild things go on on those docks..
