As I understood them at the expo the card face is the same but the card programming is different. The new card you received will be set to operate as the expedite card. That means your showers go away in 3 days not 7, you get a shower for 50 gal or for 20 gal plus $10 meal purchase within 24 hours and whatever else it was. Cards with different faces will come later I think.

YIKES! Where did you find that out Leo? I don't want the showers to go away that fast. Heck, I'd rather they stay on longer than 7 days. We find that many times, we'll think we still have a shower left, and it dropped off the day before. We don't always use TA for fuel, so the length of time between using the showers there may be longer. If this is the case, I'll keep the original RK card.

I talked to the T/A people for a while. I suggested their all you can eat thing let you get whatever you want off the menu and then charge you for the most expensive item since a guy could order and eat 3 steaks or 1 steak, one burger and one fish and they'd still only charge him for 1 steak. They liked the idea and said they'd pass it on to the restaurant division (or so they said anyway). That's when she told me about earning showers with the EK card. For a van I guess it's the only way to go but it makes no sense to me to switch for any sort of truck. The fuel discounts at the T/A are HUGE compared to everywhere else so I fuel there 9x% of the time. I checked and my last month discounts ranged from 14.1 to 42.8 cents per gallon with most in the 2x-3x range.

I was thinking about getting one,but my van only holds 25gals. if emty.If I have to go in and spend another 10 buck, were's the savings. I'll just spend the 10 buck on the shower.

It also works with fuel and shop work. I forget how exactly. The difference is if you spend $10 in the restaurant you have a full van, full belly and shower. If you just buy fuel and a shower for $10 you are still hungry.

It's a great deal for vans. Not so much for those with larger fuel tanks where getting enough fuel for a free shower is an issue. But for vans, all it takes is 20 gallons of fuel plus a $10 restaurant purchase (sit-down or fast food) within 24 hours, and you get a shower that stays on the card for 3 days.

If you drive a diesel van, make sure to swipe the card both at the pump and at the restaurant, and the shower will automatically be on the card. If you drive a gasser, you can't swipe the card at the pump, so you'll have to have the receipt on hand, as well as have the card swiped when getting a meal, then present the card and the gas receipt to get the shower.

I recently got fuel while under a load and the next day had lunch at another TA. Both the fuel and the food purchase happened within 24 hours, so I got a free shower loaded onto the card. Two days later I took the shower. The fuel I was gonna get anyway, and the food I was gonna get anyway. The free shower was a free bonus. At times when I know I probably won't be eating at a TA to get the free shower, I'll often fuel at a Flying J, despite the discounts at the TA, since a lot of the discounts at the TA don't equal the free $10 shower at the J. The discount at the TA needs to be 25 cents or more, over 40 gallons, to equal a free shower at the J. Actually, with the $1.50 transaction fee for the Comdata usage, which adds $3 to two fillups, the discount needs to be 32.5 cents at the TA, otherwise filling up at regular price and getting a free shower at the J is a better deal, especially now that all you need is two 15 gallon fuel purchases at the J to get a free shower. But at times when needing a shower isn't an issue, the TA is always a better deal. Again, this is for vans more than trucks.

I am in a sprinter and will always take the j's deal over ta if possible. I might spend 10 bucks at a trucl stop resturant once a month. In my opinion they did a very bad job of designing the program. On my case it will not result in me spendong one extra penny there.

One fill up and a meal is still cheaper than 2 fill ups.

I haven't spent a dime at the J since I got kicked out of the one in Tampa.

I would have twenty gallons less fuel and would have spent 5 or 6 more dollars for a meal than mormal. I will take the j deal everytime and come out ahead.

Actually, Charles, they've dropped it to 1/2 a shower for 15 gallons.

Thanks for the info. It's been a while since I fueled there. If it was still 20, then the TA deal would come out cheaper, but with the lower fuel prices right now, it comes out pretty close.

Ok, so I was at the Wildwood, Florida TA and noone at the fuel desk has even seen the Roadking Card. I got 20$ worth of gas and 10$ worth of food at the Popeyes, and they swiped my card, but never gave me my shower credit. Also regarding the Roadking Card, I had to call customer service and have my temporary card switched from a Roadking to an Expedite King Card. Called as soon as I filled out an application.

One thing to factor in is how you pay for your fuel and who you drive for. If you burn diesel and drive for one of the carriers getting a significant fuel discount with T/A it may be cheaper even with the meal purchases than elsewhere, especially now that they've instituted the $5 meals at their fast food choices. It's fuel plus $10 within 24 hours so that could be a $5 lunch the day of fueling and a $5 lunch the following day. If it's a location like Bloomsburg, PA where my last fueling had a discount of 43.1 cents per gallon that's a $6.45 discount on the 15 gallon minimum required. If you need most of a tank of fuel, especially if you drive a US van with a larger tank, you might put in 25 gallons of fuel and get $10.77 cents discount. Now you've paid for your 2 meals with your fuel savings so you got a free shower and free meals rather than only a free shower like you'd get elsewhere. It's all about the big pictuer and looking at all the options not just the cover art.
