Is everywhere dead? Im running local and regional out of ky and barely making it. Is otr doing better? Thinking about running otr but is it worth it anymore? Is xpo or landstar doing any good?

After talking with a buddy of mine from Landstar, he says it's terrible over there and he can't make any money. Xpo I have not really heard that much about. Maybe some xpo drivers will chime about in.

Just my thinking, Depends who ya talk to.
Carrier/recruiter may tell you,,Yes we have pleanty of work. They will always have the answer in their top pocket. Once your onboard they will think nothing of selling the freight to another carrier. I just received word that a carrier dropped its rates to the truck by a nickel, overnight, no discussion, take it or leave it.
Talk to a driver that has no expenses of operating a truck and he may say he/she is doing OK.
Talk to a Truck manufacturer/ advertisers they may tell you there is so much work that you can't afford not to buy a truck..
No easy answer right now.. Im Certainly not seeing that the work load is here like it has been in the past.

It just depends on type of unit you have and what company you are with. In expedite its a real crap shoot.rates and freight are down from what they should be.I am with landstar.I run when the rate on 1 load is over is over 2.50 and i can match it with another load that is along my route to delivery for the pick up and delivers within a couple hundered miles of my first stop.friday i picked up in decatur IL loaded to baltimore for monday delivery went home friday got on the board found one for saturday in OH not to far off I 70 that delivered to queens NY monday total extra miles added to first load was less than 200 miles the second load was just one tote got an extra $1400 on top of the $2400 for the baltimore delivery. At landstar you have to be able to do basic math I only get 70% of that.plus fsc and other charges like tarps etc since i am a flatbed hotshot now. I have ran them all from cargo vans to tractors since 1997.every possible way leased on and had own authority for 3 years. Been broke many times.always my own fault because of bad chocies very hard to be a carrier and driver at same time being just one person.that is why I ended up at landstard.it is as close to being on your own as you will find without all the head aches.
