Espar in cargo van

Espar will likely be my next purchase. As I write this, I have been on hold for Webasto Customer service for 25minutes and 58 seconds. And counting. My Airtop 2000st caught the truck on fire due to a poor installation (I found out after the fire) and I am now searching replacement parts to correctly install the unit and avoid future fires. Thirty minutes and 42 seconds....
58 minutes and 12 seconds later I finally got to talk to someone only to find out they no longer sell direct to the consumer...was given a list of distributors to call. :(

I started with a d2 in my sprinter and moved to a d4 this past winter. No bunk wall full open but do have curtains I can use on each end of the bed. Ceiling is foam board covered reflectix with the gray panels that came on the walls. The walls are rolled insulation covered with bead board. The roll was stuffed in the bigger voids and spray foam in smaller ones.. nothing added to the sliding door and only a small amount to the rear. The d2 actually did well except on the coldest of nights then it might be 57 or 58 inside when I woke up. The d4 takes care of that problem.

I would never recommend trying to heat a full sprinter, uninsulated with even a d4, it's kinda like searching for the cheapest fuel then driving 75 miles an hour everywhere. It just defeats the purpose.
xiggi, when you went from your D2 to the D4, was it necessary to change anything else or was it basically just switching out the Heater and reconnecting wires etc.?

Those two Pink insulating panels laying on bungy cords up on the ceiling are what I travel with in the winter months and bring down to partition off the rear from my bunk area. I cut them to fit the sides. It's imperfect, but works plenty good and they're light weight. I made Maggie a 6' long Ramp that detaches from the back side of the bunk, so she has more room to roam if she chooses.

Just swapped the unit itself and the metal plate it sits on. Everything underneath stayed the same as did the digital thermostat. The wiring etc just plugged into the short leads on the unit.

If you are switching from rotory to digital thermostat some changes may need made.

Is this something you did yourself may I ask?
If I can save money by installing it myself...or does one need to know a lot about wiring...does self-install
negate a warranty? Where did you purchase yours? Thx.

Nah it was pretty simple, the d4 came out of someone else's truck. Just disconnected and removed all of it and pulled and replaced my unit. In my case it didn't even need alteration to the hole in the floor. Read the edit about thermostats I made to the previous post.

My guess is it would not hurt the warrenty they come with an install disk. Too be sure ask when purchasing.

Great, I'm already digital. Thanks for your answers. I'll start pricing and take a look at my current Heater connections so I have some idea. If I run into problems, I can always buzz over to Wayne Rodd's Shop and he'll get me out of my pickle. I can figure it out.
Rains a coming this way in New Castle...cooling down. Nap time.
