Where can I get a good auxiliary battery that will fit in sprinter under the seat or hood? Any links or type of battery to look for? Need something on the cheap, already forking 2 grand between the espar, installation, roof vents and insulation. :)

Advanced Auto has Odessy batteries. They will fit under the seat and are maintenance free. I have one, but you will need a battery charger and ac charging source to charge it after about 30 hours.

I also have an isolator to charge when engine is running.

Are you doing that work or having it done? I'm at the same point. Thanks!

You're just looking for a marine deep cycle or a truck battery. Something in the $100 range, +/- $20. 100 amp hours.

Under the hood, probably not. Under the seat is better for AGM or at least maintenance free. Otherwise you can mount it behind the seat, near the Espar heater. You'll want it secure, and with some battery mat underneath to absorb any acid spills. It's like a felt material, acts like absorbant baking soda.
Walmart, Autozone, Freightliner, Cabela's, Batteries Plus, Interstate Battery, Sears, anywhere that sells batteries.

And this can be connected to alternator to charge while running engine?

Yes. You connect the battery isolator to the alternator, and the aux battery to the isolator. When the engine is running the alternator charges both the cranking and aux battery. When the key is off, the two batteries are disconnected from each other (isolated). That way whatever you're running off the aux battery won't run down the cranking battery.

More reason to have a bosch 150 amp alt over a 90 amp. :)

I remember those days well......:p

My days were with just a 0 degree sleeping bag, one time it was so cold I got out of the bag started the sprinter then literally jumped like a leap frog back to the bed to get right back in the bag, that was Detroit Mi 4 degree high that day.

About 1.5" will do. Allow 15-20 minutes' idling in the morning to clear your front glass.

I used to sit there and say to myself....this is silly..I am trying to stay warm and I have a darned window open at the same time....LOL

Wonder why the gas versions are so much more? Not as high demand I guess. Ugh.

Cause they knew a bunch of transit/prostar owners would come through after saving 5k off the price of a sprinter that they'd have some extra cash in their pockets to blow on the gas espars. Diesel never let me down. :D

I met a Panther driver a few years ago with a gas cube van. We were talking and I noticed he had a second fuel port near the rear of the box. I commented on it thinking it was for an extra gas tank. He explained that it was for his kerosene fired heater. I think it was a Wabasto or Phillips/Temro. I know it wasn't an Espar. The tank was about 5 gallons. This set-up may be a bit more of a hassle rather than drawing straight from the vehicle's fuel supply but it is an alternative for gassers to run a diesel fired heater.

Kerosene is expensive....the cost eventually will catch up over time...

True and it is also harder to find. It does burn cleaner which may result in less maintenance and parts replacement.

If one could install a kerosene fired heater in a gas van, why not a diesel Espar? A DIY installation would be easier because there would be no need to drop the vehicle's fuel tank. Moving it to another van would be simpler.
