ESP light preventing cruise control.

Hi all..I drive a 2007 Dodge Sprinter 2500/Diesel....about 8/10 times the ESP light comes on after starting and this prevents the cruise control from being used (idk about ya'll, but cruise control is like a god to me).
My question is...is there a way to override this and get the light to go off whenever I start the van so I am able to use cruise control? Is it possible that If I purchased a code reader(if so, which one?) And cleared out the warning lights before starting the vehicle each time this will do the trick?
And no, don't care for the the answer of, "just fix the ESP bro".

It might be easier than you think. If a brake light is shorted it will do that.

And to your question, no, there is no code reader that will fix it. You need to fix the problem.

It's gotta be the ESP..cause cruise works when ESP light isn't on. If it was faulty light it would never work.

Looking at the light bulbs is an easy thing to do. I had almost the same issue a few years back. And the fix was replacing a light bulb. That fixed it to this day.

Yes, an ESP or ABS etc. error will prevent the cruise control from working. But the ESP light can be caused by many different sensors also, like wheel speed sensors, accelerometer sensors, steering position sensor, etc.

Anyway, that is all I got.

I wish I remembered the exact fuse but I don't. The panel on the side of your seat it's in the top row. Just try removing and reinsert them. There's some empty spots so be sure to watch where they come from. Fixed mine a couple times.

Yeah watch the fuses the wrong one causes a start error

If you get this figured out, let me know. Living with this for a year now...closest I've got:

Error 2400 right rear sensor implausible. Wheel speed 32768 (tranlates to 11111111 binary meaning short) who knew a short had a binary designation?

Until fixed, you can try and reset it by turning the ignition on and off 3-4 times. Works for most idiot lights, at least in the older models like mine Sometimes if mine is being stubborn and won't reset, I have to drive it a few feet to 1 mile, retry 99% success rate.

On American slop buckets, disconnecting the battery for 30 - 60 seconds clears all codes from the dash board.

Easiest thing to check is the air gap on each sensor, should almost touch the tone ring, find one that has too big of a gap and that could be the problem. Also for some reason Mercedes thought the abs sensor wires were ok to just be spliced in, near the back axle look for the wires from each side sensor to come together in a big gob of electrical tape. Cut it all off and clean up those connections, I had to do that on my 05 when I had those lights on most of the time.

Anybody verify the factory wires were set up that way? The aftermarket ones are, as I learned when my shop insisted on changing the backing plates for a safety and detroyed the right rear sensor and gave it back that way

Wouldn't it be nice to just clean up some wires, I went as far as the new line and saw no splices

Yeah that's what I've been doing, lol...I'll drive it to the next red light, shut it off and retry.

I'm pretty sure I still have the service manual for the 05 on my computer but when I was dealing with mine, the manual showed the splices for the back wheel sensors. My only possible explanation for that is since they had to re assemble them here they would only have one harness instead of many different lengths according to the different configurations.

I still would have done it different if I was in charge but I am not an engineer....

#1. The question was concerning an '07 Sprinter 2500. The '07-'09 series Sprinters are kinda different from the '04-'06 vans. #2. When your ESP warning light is on, I think there are more pressing issues rather than your cruise control. What does ESP stand for? What does the system control? Hey greenhorn, does your van have an owner's manual? It's a good place to start.
Lots of info online about ESP warning lights. But your specific issue needs to be diagnosed. It could be a wide multitude of reasons. My experience: I had a rear tone wheel sensor that was giving an intermittent signal. Thinking was perhaps the sensor went bad. In reality I had a rear wheel bearing go, causing the gap to increase/widen periodically showing an intermittent signal. Sensor was fine. That was my particular problem .. that I needed to diagnose & figure out.
Again, there's much more important stuff affected other than your cruise control.
Imo ... get it fixed ...
