Error Could Cause Thousands of TWIC Cards to Be Rejected

Diane and I also have had TWIC cards for some time and find them to be mostly worthless. Checking the numbers, we find our cards to be OK. But that matters little since no shipper or consignee we have dealt with at FedEx Custom Critical or Landstar has required a TWIC card and very, very few recognize it at all. If the numbers were bad, I doubt that we would go to the trouble to have them corrected.

A refinery in Long Beach,Ca required one for entrance. A container yard in Fort Lauderdale also. I agree, just a waste of time and money.

I have yet to go any place that wanted one that wouldn't provide an escort for me.

You know the problem with bad cops? They make the other 5% look bad.

If you a do a lot of inbound and outbound port loads then your card will get a workout  Also as Zorry posted some refineries make you have one for access. I know the Citgo refinery in Lake Charles, LA. also requires one for access to most area's. Mine paid for it self about a month after I got it. I charge $97.50 for a qualified driver fee, on these loads. Also I frequent the port in Portsmouth and Chesapeake, VA. Both require the card for access right to the ship where I unload at.

Some area's are access by card only (card will open gates for restricted zones) no escorts/no exceptions, also most ports charge a fee for the service and it takes time to wait for the escort.

I used a escort before I applied for my card, had a pc. of machinery for the restricted zone and I was not granted access even with a escort. Had to take it to offsite inspection and waited 2 hours for a fork lift to come over and unload me over there. Total time wasted on that one shipment 4.5 hours, cause the carrier I was leased to was not told you have to only use TWIC approved drivers  And since I showed up 4 hours early to the drop I did not make a dime in D-time. I don't miss the days of being leased anymore. Something happen like that today and $$ will be made :D
