EOBR into an older truck?

Trying to find out if I will run into trouble installing a Qualcomm MCP EOBR system into an older truck? Will these systems work in a 2001 Freightliner FL80? I can't seem to come up with any compatabilty info online or cutoff age for trucks. Thanks in advance.

It did not work with mine. Johnson and Towers screwed my truck up big time when they installed it. It never worked right. I'm on paper logs.

I've even been reading thru the installation manuals online and can't find a definitive answer as to what model years and manufacturers should work. Seems like everyone I have found online that has had problems is around the 1996 model year?

Why don't you give Qualcomm a call and find out? I'm pretty sure they would have your answer if not could maybe point you in the right direction.

Should be able to be installed on any electronic engine. They had issues with the Hinos, but they even have that fixed now. We had a QC installed in a 2000 model FL 70 with no issues. Most issues are created by the installer not being competent.

Spoke with technical support at Omnitracs/Qualcomm, and they said the main issue is having a knowledgable technician install the system. As long as a truck has an ECM it can be done. They basically said the same thing, most of the problems I've been reading about are typically results of improper installations or guys not really knowing what they were doing.
You would think they would be advertising the compatability of their systems better in light of the future possibility of mandatory electronic logs...
Appreciate the help, big decision coming if I'll be returning to expediting and I'd prefer to do it in an already paid for truck!

Also for anyone else facing this situation in the future, my local Freightliner dealer flat out told me that they do not have a qualified tech to install these systems when I spoke with them this morning. He also stated that depending on the truck, it may involve splicing into the ECM's wiring harness, which if not done correctly...

New Hinos have a pigtail near the steering column specifically to hook up systems like the Qualcomm. To absolutely no one's surprise, unqualified installers don't even know it's there and instead go tapping into all sorts of things that are better left unmolested.

Deville, what year and make of truck?
Same as yours

I think that was the case with mine. This was also the thrid QC in my truck and I think splicing into the wire harness that much doesn't do the unit well. When I dropped my truck off at Johnson and Towers everything on the truck worked. When I got it back my Cruise Control didn't work anymore and didn't exist in the ECM, my acceleration wasn't the same, I was always getting speed sensor faults among other things.

J&T told me half my ECM wasn't working properly I told them they better replace it, which of course they didn't.
