Regarding not getting anybody on 19... when I really want to get a hold of a driver in the same direction I'm going... I first check their rig for a CB antenna... next I'll pull up along side their drivers side ((if road, traffic, and weather conditions permit)) and do like I do in the northeast when somebody shakes their cell phone at me... I grab my CB mic and shake it at them.

You laugh, maybe even saying it's dangerous, but it works. What if they have a safety issue going on? For example, an outside blown tire that's shredding, a chain or airline that's tragging - or something vital to their safety and everybody elses... that few moments of microphone shaking could be well worth it if it saves a life and/or prevents an accident. How many times have you seen where a trucks side box is open and a tool box is ready to plop onto the road?

At nite time, often times you're able to see their CB lights lit up - and they usually just have the volume down low. Then they get on their squawke box and we tuck 300 to 500+ miles under our belts together... if they can hang with MotorMouth that long. My CB only goes off when I go to sleep, otherwise, I've got it on all the time - with the volume up. Sometimes I'll turn the squelch way up on it, but it never goes off when I'm rollin'.

I've found it (the CB) particularly helpful when entering in/out of busy plants and cities, particularly with extensive highway systems and alot of truck traffic.

The trick to a CB and so many don't realize it, is that it's got to be peaked and tuned by a reputable (well known) CB shop. While they can be hard to find at times, and time consuming (plan on average about 1+ hours at a decent CB shop) they're well worth their costs. An echo box is nice, while it can be annoying if anjusted wrong... it's nice because you can be heard when you want to be heard.
I've got about $200 invested into one of my radio's, the other I've got about 130 invested into it. The big pricey one is a used one that I traded an older cheaper CB for. Peaked and tuned, it has an echo box in it and is used for long distance. The other I keep in my personal vehicle and is used more regionally.

The next time I run up into MI/OH area's... I'll try out 29 to see what the latest gossip is.
