Engine in the 2005 M2

Has anyone had anything go wrong with there engine in the 2005 M2 Freightliner?

We have a truck that had to be towed to the Freightliner Dealership in Morton, Ill because it lost 3 gallons of oil in 12 miles. There was oil all over this truck from what the driver's told me. The truck just had an oil change 4000 miles ago and gets one every 12000 to 15000 miles. The drivers said that the oil was coming out the drivers side of the of the truck and the dealer is saying it may take 3 to 4 days to fix because they don't know where the oil is coming from. I think this is a shame that a truck that has only 105,000 miles on it has this problem. Makes you think about Buying an M2 Frieghtliner, this truck has been in the shop like 8 times in 6 months. I will keep you updated on this matter.

We have one that is the same year, but with a Cat engine. So far, no problems. As stupid as it sounds, it is a possibility that when the oil was changed, they left the cap off. We had caught Speedco forgetting to attach and seal it twice.
Oil line to the turbo is possible, but it is on the other side of the engine. That leaves a oil pump line, blown gasket, or a cracked block.
A loose oil filter wouldn't blow oil all over the engine.

Hopefully it is a unattentive driver, and it is the first one.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks Dave

I like the 3126 cat myself, I like to deal with the guys over at Fyda Frieghtliner in Youngstown Ohio. Rob,Dave,Joe,Justin, and the whole gang over there are great. And for me to drive 50 miles just for them to work on my truck tells you something about the work they do. They checked everything on this M2 and couldn't find where the oil was coming from. I hope its not something big, I know the repair is covered by Freightliner but, it been over 24 now and they don't know anything.

I wouldn't be suprised if the oil change facility over filled it and the resulantant pressure blew a seal on the oil cooler. One time my local F/Liner dealer gave me 40 quarts insted of the 22 called for in my Cummins. I always check the level after a oil change,as to Speedco I have left them with loose fuel filters causing starting problems the next day. but Speedc Corporate reimbursed me for the road service call needed to get going.

Rich has a good point. I was thinking that the Mercedes has a sealed unit. If it does have a seal, that would be another place to look.

You would think with close inspection, they would be able to tell the origin of the leak?

Hopefully they get you out quickly.

Not a 2005 but a 2004, I will detail my perdicament on Friday, I am too ######to do it now, not to mention, to cold, to broke, to tired, and did I mention ######. Why Friday.... because I will be down for four more days. A hint though, Karin and I got to ride in a brand new W 900 And man oh man I would give up my partial plate for a rig like that....... No not just any truck, but one of two TOW trucks that I got to ride in, in the last 15 hours.

Did any one mention ######.

Great!! don't tell me Morton Freightliner is not that great of a place. They pulled the pain to check to see if there was something wrong with the main rods and bearing's. Everything checked out ok, so now there going to fill it back up with oil and try to find where the oil is coming from. They can send the bill to Freigntliner, as long as we don't pay the bill. The truck has been there 30 hrs now. Thanks Rich and Dave for your reply's :)

I will keep you up dated.

Just to update you on this matter the M2 has a filter that has to be changed every 100000 miles and this filter cap was cracked. This filter is something only a dealer would know where to change it at. This is a paper filter that goes down in what is called an oil spinner. Hope this helps people out in the future.

Oh and Morton Freightliner's night shift staff are great. The guy was nice and got to the truck really fast when he came in last night.

Hey Dave,
We just experienced the same problem with our 2006 M2 with in 1/4 mile we lost 20 quarts of oil. Truck had just turned 16 thousand miles and we had our 1st oil change at 14k. Towed to Freightliner in Inver Grove Heights MN and were told it was the mounting gasket between the block and centrifuge oil filter. I was notified today that a second truck of ours 2005 w/ 100k on it did the same thing.

Sorry to that about your truck's Our truck was at Freightliner Truck Center in Morton, Ill. It was there 2 days because they wanted to pull the Oil pan on the truck to check the Main rods and Bearing's to make sure there was no Damage because of the loss of so much oil. The night shift Guys in Morton , Ill was great. After they done the repairs to the truck they Steam cleaned the truck to get all the oil off the truck and washed and waxed the truck at no cost to us. My hats off the the Truck Center in Morton Ill.:)
