Employee's Say No to UAW

I don't understand how Senator Bo Watson could say, in public, just aheaad of the vote, that if the union were voted in, the Tn legislature would not be granting any further subsidies to VW [which were counted on to expand to a second line]. Where I sit, that looks an awful lot like extortion.
It's good that the UAW lost, I think, because it seems the workers are happy with VW's management, which is more collaborative than the typical American us vs them style. That's a positive sign: it doesn't have to be a contest! And it goes much smoother when it isn't. Duh!
One other thing I wonder: VW wants to introduce the Workers Council arrangement used in Germany, but labor law experts say they can't, unless the workers are represented by a union - WTH?! That's crazy!

If VW wants the Workers Council deal, and they need a labor union to use it in this country, could they have thought one offset the other ?

If it's a wash either way, then neutrality is understandable.

What was it that caused so many to vote yes on the Union issue ?
Must be reasons. Particularly down there where there would be family pressure to vote no.

My sis worked in management at a large equipment manufacturer in St Joe, Mo.
The company line was if the Union comes in we will probably have to shut down soon.
Union lost. They soon shut the plant down.
I wonder if management was hoping the union would have won. They could have blamed that for loss of jobs.
Instead they moved jobs to stay competitive in a global economy.
AKA as Greed.

What happened at your sister's company probably explains some of the yes votes: management has been known to lie. Flat out, straight faced, boldly lie to workers whose livelihood is at stake.
Also, maybe some yes votes were because of the requirement to be repped by a union for VW to create a Workers Council. I still don't see the logic in that, as the Council represents the workers - why the additional requirement?

At least I would pay for my meal with money that I EARNED! Not one penny that was extorted from management OR LABOR!

Get a dictionary.
Look up extortion.
Now look up negotiation.

Get back to me.

Sorry, I was RAISED by union organizers. I KNOW better. Far too may shootings, beatings etc, on BOTH sides. I don't buy it.

What would the Teamsters do to us expediters in a strike? Leave us alone to do our business as per normal? I doubt that very much. I was, after all, a paid member of Teamster Local 299. Recognize that local? I was also a paid member of the USW AND UAW unions, and a couple of others.

Remember, I am the son and grandson of miners.

I know BOTH sides of that story, and trust NEITHER side.

I have been extorted by unions AND management. I am tired. I am going to bed.

PROVE to me tomorrow that EITHER side is worth a sack of dried turkey dung tomorrow. Same goes for government.

Later Gator! LOL!!

It isn't the wild west anymore..

And yes , unions in this country started out as extortionists. ( sounds like YOUR FAMILY was part of the problem.)They've evolved into a closely scrutinized business.

Are they perfect ? NO !
Can they provide a service ?
Sometimes.

You don't trust either side ?
The list of people /organizations you do trust is pretty short, I imagine.

The lousy *******s. And we all know the union has never lied to management. The union has never lied to the members. Yeah, that's it, the union is so totally honest that that's why there were some yes votes.

I only distrust people/organizations that I have been shown that I have reason to distrust them. I have seen people wronged by employers AND unions. There is no reason to trust either.

Not ONLY the unions started out as extortionists, so did industry.
