I've been trying to get hooked up with them for over a month. They have so many hoops to jump through I've about given up.

I hear they are fine for local but don't have the business to keep you moving aruond the country but I ahve no personal knowledge of them.

they are different
right now i'm jumping thru hoops to put on a new unit and
what a wait
when i stared with them took me 3 weeks to get on with them
and than get rolling
in norfolk station we do 90 percent local and 10 percent over the road
like local better
nice being home and less miles

In 3 days of doing local work for them I have made at least $350 every day in a sprinter. Now I've worked hard for it but I don't mind working if they don't mind paying me.

The biggest thing I see wrong with them in my short time is that they will expect you to do the impossible...like putting a 250 lb. couch on my van and expecting me to deliver it alone to a house. I made them take it off! They were kinda upset with me but I think it set the tone as to what I will allow them to do and what I won't stand for.

The office I am working out of has gown down alot in the last year I'm told. A year ago they had 7 vehicles working out of it now they have 3. One regular van, my sprinter and one straight truck.

I'll keep you posted.

After 2 weeks I don't claim to be an expert on EGL but I'll continue to give my opinion.

My truck that I have with them has made at least $300 every day averaging about 200 miles. The office it is working out of does a lot of home deliveries. Eagle does J.C. Penny, crate and barrel and Amazon stuff so we are doing a lot of stuff that really needs 2-3 people but they expect one man to do it. For example, Friday I was sent to a neighboring town to deliver a queen size box spring and mattress and a 240 lb. large hutch that was about 5 feet tall. They get upset with you if you turn stuff down but if I tear it up, I get in more trouble. I can also see that taking the hotshots they have will only cause you to loose money unless you can get one on a Friday afternoon like we did so my guy could work all day Friday and then deliver 700 miles away the next afternoon and be back for the Monday rush.

In a nut shell I can tell you this is NOT expediting! Its not picking up a pallet and driving 400 miles and having someone stab it with a fork lift and going out and doing it again. This is working for a living! If you want to just drive, stay away from them, but if don't mind working hard and want to sleep in your own bed most nights its not a bad place to work. You work hard but they also pay well.

I like them so far… I’ll keep you posted.

So that's where Penney went!

We used to do Penney @ Dynamex. Paid good. I miss that work a lot. I've been trying to get my A**, er butt in gear to get a new van or small cube truck and try getting on with EGL. My Astro is tired (200K miles).

Thanks Childsafe (and GEO from past posts) for the info!

I've filled out their online application several times and have yet to receive a response. I'm not overly impressed with them so far.

they are different than anybody else, you need to go to station
and see station manager
they should be near or close by the airport in a city near you

Geo that is true. Don't try to deal with the corporate people. I can tell you from personal experience that if the station mgr. needs and wants you things can happen fast. Brit, our mgr. at GSP got on our side and after weeks of getting nowhere he made things move within days.

I'm still pleased overall with EGL. They don't have as many expedited loads as they told me but we're making money doing the local freight and it keeps me my driver home most nights and keeps the miles off my vehicle. Having said that I will tell you that my company is an agent with EGL, not leased on with them. If it comes to the point when they tell me they are going to quit using us unless we lease the vehicle onto them I'm out of there. the one van that is leased on to them at GSP is lucky to make $100 per day. They pay the van less than $8 for some local stops and the driver only gets 35% of that.

Og, and after 5 weeks we finally got our first check from them...

OK, I am a bit confused here. What is the difference between you being 'leased' to them vs. being an 'agent'?

Something seems outta kilter here.

i have one truck and o/o
agent may have more than one truck say about 10 trucks
and has 2 or 3 trucks on with egl and others companies in area
and he is not held down to just egl freight if it is a slow
day he may have freight he need's moved and is able to use those
truck for what he wan't when egl has no freight for him

I might be able to help with "agent" that is anyone who is not an O/O signed on with EGL. So if they cannot cover a load (Local or Hotshot) tyhey will get another company to do it, and pay them 90% or 100% of the tariff. If it is a EGL O/O they will get their % of the Tariff, A straight truck is 65% EGL keeps the rest. In that example you can see where EGL wants their O/O to do the work.

Some people have more than one truck signed on with them and will pay the driver 35 to 40 % of the gross to the truck. If you are in a busy area you will make very good money per mile, If you stay away from the hotshots. got to go.

EGL will hire a newbe only if he has one year of experience in the equipment size that they want to sign on with the company. They recently came up with a policy that after one year with them that you can move up one size, I think that is a great idea for the most part until you can go up to T/T then I don't think it such a good idea, I now am qualified in their eyes to drive a T/T if I want. I like the fact that they allow you to move in class of truck without changing companys to gain the one year experience, but I sure can't back a T/T for the night into The Flying J on a rainy night without buying a hood for someone.

I think that the online application for EGL is geared more for them finding drivers for the Hub system, not the local stations.

each station is where you have to go as they put truck's on
as they need them

in norfolk va we need 1 van and 1 st truck
great being home every night

I have been trying to get hold of someone with egl to find out if they may be in need of a dock high day cab box truck in the Fort Wayne area but I never can get anybody to talk with me.
Does anyone know how to expedite this process?

Sho up at your local EGL station on either a Friday morning or a Monday morning in your clean truck. Park it out of the way but in view of the docks so the guys driving the fork lifts can see it. Start by taking to them and have them take you to the station manager. If they need trucks Monday and Friday's are the days they will be desperate. Forget the phone calls or the link on the internet. If the local station needs you the manager can make things happen within a week or two.

Try calling 260.478.2735 ask for Domestic Dispatch, that should get you a start.

You might want to ask for the Operations manager instead of the Station manager, depends on the size of the place if they are one in the same.

One good thing about EGL is that they will not put on more trucks than they need and will outsource the work for awhile.

Thanks for setting that straight for me guys. Now I get it! ;)

I just bought a 10' 2001 GMC 2500 cutaway (ex Penske truck) and will be visiting my local EGL office.
