EGL Switch

I am in the final analysis phase of switching my van from FECC to EGL. Any information that might aid me in making the right decision would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx,

Bill

It will depend on what station you are going to sign on at. Some will run you to death and some will only be able to run you 2 1/2 days a week. I assume ( yeah I know about the word assume ) you want to run mostly local. When I left CVG some long time van drivers were switching to 26' box trucks w/liftgate, and roll up door. They could not make the money that they once did.

There is no set amount of money that you get for a run, it will depend on how they rate it that day. And weather the person got there hat handed to them for rating stuff to high the day before.

EGL really depends on which station you are running out of. Even then, I would be reluctant. I coordinated their air freight for a little over 2 years that they chartered out to a national carrier. I worked for the air carrier, not EGL. The philosophy at EGL, and arguably most places, but especially EGL is to pass on the problem and let the next person deal with it.

I eventually fought like heck to get out of working with the EGL group because it was such a headache every single day. The station manager and supervisor were great and I consider them to be good friends, but it was absolutely a losing battle.

I am curious to know which station you are thinking of working out of.

Be ready for a bunch of JC Penny loads. See if they will let you hang around the dock for a morning, you will get to see how much, and what they put on the vans. Some of the PITA's (Dispatchers)(pain in the a--) use the van as a back up, some of the good ones use it as an asset. You will see very large pay check swings from one week to the next. Geo has a busy station to work with and seems to love the place, but it seems that he has a route of sorts. At the CVG they did not do that for the Vans.
The operations manager will be able to show you the settlements for vans over a period of a few weeks, and that will give you a decent idea of what to expect if you know the area real well.

We used to deliver the JC Penney stuff @Dynamex. If it still pays the same it's not bad work for the money. Be careful that they don't ry to stuff a two man job on you by yourself though.

Sorry, I cannot help you much with the CLE station. All the CLE freight I dealt with got routed through the CMH hub.

Good luck on your decision. I realized after I read your post last night I had an EGL polo on. How ironic?
