Eatting a poppy seed bagel can make you make you test postive on a drug test. I was just watching mythbusters and they confrimed it. Both guys tested postive after eatting poppy seed bagels. So beware of poppy seed Bagels. :+

Snopes confirmed that, while stating that some "agencies" are now using a standard of 2000ng/mL to avoid the false positive results. I don't eat poppyseed bagels, but when I'm in the mood to make kolaches, poppyseed is a favorite filling, so this is not good news!

Wow! You learn something new every day! I just checked with an RN I know well (my wife Diane). She said, "Yes. That's been out for years." There is a second-level test that can sort the poppy seeds out of the results and perhaps more recently a more accurate test that can do the same.

Testers have increased the threshold for a positive test to allow for the low level of opiates in the urine as a result of poppy seeds.

A Vick's inhaler will cause a methamphetamine positive, too. So if you are on a Vick's inaler, let the tester know so they can perform the additional tests that will rule out the inhaler.

There are 900,000 poppy seeds in a pound.

Test Test Test, Know somthng Ive take more ##### test in the last 23years then many, If you were in the Military and On the PRP Program You know what Im talking about once a week ya here.

Never did Drugs as kid, didnt do them in the military and I certainly Not Now, By the WAY As Many have seen I dont drink Neither. Proof was in the pudding at Paradise Island.
But sure had funn parasailing.

Here is a really dumb question;

So you get a positive (of course it is not drug related), what is your carrier going to do?

Will they allow you to retest with a different diag panel or will they boot you?

I think everyone should ask thier carrier.

by the way I always thought everyone knew about the poppy seed thing and about Listerine, Phil is right you learn something every day.

What I'd heard about poppyseeds was that it took a LOT to test positive, but Snopes debunked that. Judging by the lawsuits filed, and won, by people who failed the test, any carrier that doesn't allow a second test, if the first didn't use the more sensitive standards, would be liable to regret it.
