I am PROUD of my Dad and I learned the lessons he taught me. How to assume my adult responsibilities. The benefits of hard work and the rewards it brings. That taking pride in one's self is no where near as important than taking pride in one's accomplishments.

Miners are TOUGH, GOOD people for the most part. Sound stock to have come from.

My one grand dad was killed in a coal mine, the other escaped a fall and never went back. I KNOW the reality of coal. You must be proud of your background.

These are my grandparents. I don't know too much history on them. i know that my grandfather ended up being a hlicopter flight instructor. I have all of his training manuals as well as the books from Bikini Atoll, when he was involved in that. My grandmother was in the Women's Army Corp.

Lots of great pictures, it is really important to know the history of your family tree. When my grandmother and mother started looking into my grandfather's family it was pretty important not only for the historic value but medical issues as well.

This is a photo of my Dad( standing on right) in 1970 at age 50. Uncle Roland on left. This is the image I remember of my Dad from that era as I was about 9 years old at the time. In the 1970's, my Uncle Roland owned a car dealership while my Dad had sold his independent mining operations to work exclusively for Kentland-Elkhorn Coal Co.

On weekends, my Dad would take my younger brother and me on hunting expeditions. In reality, this meant the 3 of us would be walking for mile after mile through the mountains with Dad's beagles. As I remember, we never took guns. Still, my Dad called it hunting.
