In 1976 I was a member of the broomball team that won an annual tournament sponsored by the Flat Iron Bar in St. Cloud, MN. The name of our team was the Ed Gein Farm Club. Our fans could be heard chanting from the sides of the rink: Team Gein, Team Gein!

Ed Gein inspired a lot of movies. Psyco, TheTexas Chainsaw Massacre and all Hanibal Lector movies. Dahmer was an amature compared to Gein.

Eagle, thanks for the link. I started reading this post from the beginning and it seemed familiar. Took me a bit to check the date and realize how old it was.

In my younger days Ed Gein was just a cult figure. Some weirdo we found perversely amusing. I believe he only killed one person, the woman that finally led to his arrest.

I don't mean to trivialize what he did; he was certainly one sick puppy. But I did find some humor (yeah, I'm a sick puppy) in his story and thought nothing of naming a hack broomball team in his honor. Our team bus, my 1963 International Harvester pickup truck was beat upon with a dull hatchet amid screams of "Team Geiin." We, to this day believe that war cry instilled fear in the hearts of our opponents and allowed us to capture victory in that particular tournement.

Last winter a friend sent me some photos form Eagle River. I couldn't believe all the eagles roosting in the trees. It's toss up between bald eagles and loons as my favorite bird. I do share a certain trait with the eagles though.

Thanks again for the link.

Moot, you are right about the eagles. The last time they did a survey of nests, there were 220 nesting pairs 2 years ago. As for the Gein movie, it was acurate with a few minor detail changes. The sherriff deputy's aunt, not his mother was killed. The deputies girlfriend and the sherriffs daughter was not kidnapped and there was no car crash. Also the black couple that stopped at the car crash is a stretch, since the only blacks north of Milwaukee in 1957 played for the Packers. Unfortunatly Ed wearing the skin of his victims was very true. In the credits at the end, it says he was found guilty of 2 murders and was suspected of 10.
