Seasoned Expediter
In researching 3pL(s) I was wondering if you might responed to a couple of questions?

Are carrier contracts exclusive, as in not accepting loads from other 3pL(s).

Would having your own authority, (class 8, 24' temp controlled W/sleeper, team), be favorable.

Some are exclusive and some aren't. I am not aware of any expedite carrier that could survive on exclusive contracts.

As a one truck operation it is possible, but it would require a lot of door knocking to find that one client. If you have no experience in the endeavor, I would steer you away from the single operating authority until you really understand the business.

Reading through the forums will give you a working knowledge of who the companies are that perform these services. They are primarily Panther, Fedex, and Landstar.

JW Potts;

There are other carriers that allow their contractors to work under their own Authority in addition to the three that DaveKC listed. You would need to ask each carrier you are interested in. Be aware of and abide by, any non-compete clauses in your (lease or broker) agreements.
