Will be hitting the road in the spring, to begin my second career and I'm checking out different driving options. Having lurked around this forum for years, I'm somewhat intrigued by the lifestyle. I've kept up my driving skills over the years with a variety of part-time jobs, so it won't be completely new for me. Question: Is there any work here in Ontario, driving an expediter vehicle (preferably straight truck) for an owner? Anybody doing it succesfully or know of others who are? Large income is not an issue but I'd like enough work to make 30-40g's in a year without runnning my *** off. What do you think, pipe dream, or no??

As a solo 30-40 grand.?..you will be running your butt off...@ a standard 40% take of the gross to the truck..
You may have to re-evaluate your expectations..
Especially Kennedy Transportation that'll lease you on with Aberstar might have mis spelled that..I've know a few that went belly up with them...

As much as I despise TST...they have a good network of freight..
History...TST is a Transforce company like many in Canada that all operate under their previous names..Like Midland,Kingsway, Cabano..all with that red slash over the name...
Majority owner is the Sapputo family of Montreal(the cheese people) Out of NYC direct desendents of the same Sapputo crime family of NYC...
Transforce is the money laundering division hence the multi names to be almost untraceable in a forsenics audit.
I'd be happy with 30g's but more is always nice.
I have my AZ so tractor trailer would be an option, however I was thinking that the straight truck idea might be a bit less stressful. I love driving, and miles won't an issue (if available), it's the tight schedules and rushing that I'm not much interested in. I'm in my 50's now, have a higher stress career in the books already, so it's more about pursuing a life-long dream while earning a few bucks and staying productive and alive, if you get my drift.

The pay part is the rough one in that if you were the one billing or being paid the amounts the companies want to pay then ok they actually do pay alright. If billing through a company and only receiving a share then not worth it. There have been a lot of companies that have consolidated their operations in either Toronto area or Montreal and now there are more loads running but the prices have fallen from past years.
