driving at night in the rain

Yes, I have. I'm sure most of us have. When the conditions get like that, I'm pulling over the first chance I can safely do so.

Be safe,

In my 25 yrs experiance in the paint business I learned this.

Paint supplied for highway use is of course put out for bid.Small companies that go after this business are often less than honest. One of there tactics is to submit quality products for the state to run their test. After winning the bid, many of these companies reduce the quality that actually goes on the pavement.(It is rumored that payoffs are also made)

The only way to insure good quality materials are used all the time is to require that the contractors guarantee that the paint will last for a specified number of years.

This is the way the Europeon countries do it.Of course the polititions in on the graft are apposed.

Rainex wont work, has nothing to do with the wipers or the amount of rain thats falling, I'm sure some veterans know what I'm talking about. It has to do with, when the ground is wet.

The only thing that seems to help me is a good set of fog lights. But you have to slow down so you don't over drive them.

We tried Rainex for almost a year. During the day it worked very well for about 2-3 weeks at-a-time.

However, because Rainex is really an automotive wax, the glare from overhead lights at night on the windshield was very dangerous.

It is also very hard to completely remove.

Windshield wipers in a good condition are just as effective and 100x safer for night driving.

Just our experience.

Be safe ;)

Our Rainex experience is the same as hedgehog's. While Rainex provides instant results that you can see (water does not bead up), it's effectiveness diminishes with time, requiring removal of the old wax and application of new. We find it to be more trouble than it's worth. Easier to change you wiper blades at regular intervals and keep small items from falling down your defroster vents. Rainex film is difficult to remove and it is indeed a film that reduces visibility.

I'll make it 2 for and 3 against.

I'm a Rain-X fan, and have been for years. If applied regularly, I believe this surface tension modifier is an excellent product at highway speeds and a fail suplement to the wiper at slow city driving. In the summer it allows easy removal of the bugs we all collect. My next truck will have the heated washer fluid system and I'll be interested to know how the Rain-X works in concert with the heated fluid. Perhaps "GEO" or "GLEN" will comment on that.

I am also a Rain-X fan. It must be applied to clean warm glass for best results. I use a Rain-X additive mixed with regular windshield washer. My only complaint is that it's a dust magnet in the summmer.

Wait a minute... if I can't see the lines on the road in the rain, does that mean I should open my eyes when driving???

Seriously though, I don't think I've never had that problem. I'm not saying that it can't happen, just that I don't remember that ever being a problem. Maybe I'm driving in the wrong states. Maybe I should open my eyes!!!

No Critter....It's cuz you're young!! Eyes are better. As you get older the lines get harder to see at night, especially at night in the rain, even with cheaters on (glasses). I'm sure a lot of you out there can relate to what I'm saying, and you will too one day Critter. Ask the Hawk, he knows what I'm talking about.:'(
