Has it been 10 years since he got the felony,or 10 years since the felony was off his record, was it a violent crime ,or did he just get cought smoking a joint,or was it a dui.in most cases it all depends on the crime, how long ago since he served his time. The companies that go into Canada wont touch him unless he can get a pardon, even though he may be able to turn Canadian loads down, they still have their rules. As far as you all pickinjg on the Colonel, does this guy have a cdl, what kind is A<B<C,and does he have any experiance, cause felony or no felony, without experience, who is going to hire him?I dont think anyone here is downing this person for the felony,he served time and wants to get on with life, but in transportation, the insurance companies dictate what a company can do.

Even say the dude was 19 when busted, you are assuming it was some BS small little dope in his ash tray or something like that......well, if it was just a small amount like we are assuming it would not have been a felony, the courts would not have pushed it to that, it cost to much for local, state and feds to push some BS amount of dope into some grand ole felony case - IF it was his first time. Was it?
If this was not some sort of violent or grand white collar felony why is he so bent out of shape even thinking it would be a problem - heck call a trucking company and ask!
When it comes to felony convictions let us all remember, everyone is innocent, they were all framed, and it really wasn't that big of a deal.
Face it - the guy committed a serious crime it was prosecuted as A FELONY!
Would you want a convicted felon in your truck when your sleeping?
Not me. Call me a poor sport on giving felons second chances. Its a business and I am not going to trust someone who I already know crossed the criminal line AT LEAST ONCE and got caught.

I believe that post could generate "many" different responses. In which case please watch South Park season 1 or 2 titled "Chicken Luver". Episode was hilarious

ShawnF A chicken man myself. Check out Hopkins Gardens chicken house in barberton, OH. Awesome

FMCSA applies 1.4 percent of its budget to programs that will help ensure that felons and other security-risk individuals are not issued commercial driver's licenses to transport commodities that could become mobile weapons of mass or significant destruction.

So he - THE FELON can forget about a hazmat endorsement.

Also, keep in mind EOE says nothing about felons being given the same rights as law-abiding minorities, gays, etc etc.

Another thought, since this garbage head has never came back, do we really want this guy driving if he is a convicted felon. I don't want to hear that he paid his debt bla bla bla.

Maybe, he is a convicted sex offender - FELON. It is possible for sex offenders to travel over state lines too.

FtWayne... that's a bit harsh, isn't it? Garbage head? Sex offender? Getting a little ahead of ourselves here? So the guy has a record. Most ppl who do have learned their lessons. Nothing wrong with him driving, IMO. So he can't do hazmat. I don't either. Don't want to.

If that's the extent of his offenses, I don't think many companies would have a problem with him. Of course, you would have to ask them yourself, if you're planning on putting him in your truck.

Panther has paperless logs which should reduce his chances of recidivism.

The stats I was shown when going through corrections training show if a convict goes 10 years without reoffending chances they will offend again are like 10%. The chances a non offender will offender is slightly higher than that. If the guy has been out of prison for ten years, finished any parole he may have been on, and kept a clean nose I think he deserves a shot.

So do I Ark. Some of these backwoods states would felony a fella for signing someone elses three dolla check.

Still don't answer what other reasons there are for a person to put [them] in a truck to run 48. There must be something else saleable, other than the "bride wants to run team with him"

For those of you that have given the "school book answer" for your particular organization, please understand that an organization with say 2000 trucks running, i'm going to "just estimate now" that there are approximately 8000 other trucks to look for a ride in. So...the ones i've seen mentioned here, are really a drop in the bucket, AND, not the only game in town. Y'all gotta look at the big pic.

Depending on his mvr and what type of cdl he has I know a man that would most likely hire him. It's like the col said some states make a felony out of nothing. He may have been the one they decided to make an example out of and the one before and after him got a slap on the wrist.

FortWayne;
I think you are missled on Hazmat !!!
Look it up my friend !!
They only GO BACK 7 Yrs !!
They also only look for someone that that would be a threat such as bombs,etc..
I know..
I had a situation back in 1990 which created a Felony.. I hit a cop.. Stupid move but I did it !!Probation, fines for 1 yr, discharged in 1991 !!No trouble since !!
Pulled my own Record, not there !!
Record only went back 10 yrs !!
I called HazMat and explained it to them.. They informed me that they only go back 7 years !! I had nothing to worry about !!
Remember..
Not all situations that happen make someone a bad or terrible person !!
As far as going into Canada..
Do not want to anyways....
No offense guys..
I do take offense to people judging someone without knowing complete situation !!

There have been a few times I've wanted to punch a cop and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way.
