Driver pay

I am talking to an owner-operator about being a team driver on one of his trucks. I was wondering what the fair and current rate of pay is for this situation. I will be part of a team driving a straight truck (22 ft.). Although I have 2 years experience driving I have never been OTR. All help and advice will be welcomed.

Normally, there is not enough income to support three households, that is why most of the better fleet owners only hire same household teams.

However, there has been some typing about making a million in this business, also. And, some have.

Thanks for the reply but what kind of compensation package is the industry offering now? Paid per mile, per load, percent of what truck earns???

I know of drivers drivng D units getting the following

40% split between team drivers not paying repairs, tolls or fuel

60% to 65% split between team drivers paying fuel plus 100% of Fuel surcharge not paying tolls or repairs

75% split between team drivers paying fuel with no fuel surcharge not paying tolls or repairs

Each rate is negotiable and don't forget to get a signed contract protecting your interest

Strongly recommend you check archives for posts on contracts and rates. Will take some time but the results can save your a bundle of headaches

when I had my fleet,i paid drivers 20% each, and gave then 20% more for the fuel for truck.if here was a fuel surcharge, the truck got the charge,at the end of the week, after drivers drew their pay,the money left from the trucks 20% was there bonus.
