Drive Time vs Waiting Time

I know there is no such thing as an "average week" in our business, but, over the past year, using a percentage basis, what would be your own individual (or team) breakdown.

This is only a guestimate.

(i.e., 75% wait, 25% drive)

Be safe and busy.

The most you could run without running out of hours (not counting a 34 hour reset) is 36% of the time.

That is a difficult question to answer because off duty or sleeper time in the log book can be spent in different ways: (1) in service waiting for an offer, (2) in service, dispatched on a load and waiting to pick it up (like dispatched on Friday for a Monday pickup), (3) out of service to rest for a couple days after running hard, (4) out of service and at home because home is where you then want to be, or (5) out of service and someplace other than home like on a vacation or at a family event at a different city because that is then where you want to be.

I'm assuming you mean time that you're away from home and involved with the truck in one way or another. This week it'll be around 30% of my "away from home" time is either moving to pick up a load or being loaded. If the rest of the day and tomorrow go by without a load, that number will go down, of course. Overall, I would say between 25% and 35% is average for me. Tho three weeks ago, it was around 68% for Monday to Sunday. Before any of you jump on me for being illegal, that includes sleeper time with a load in my truck. But that's my best week to date, so it's not the norm.

since theres 168 hours in a week, and when i drive i average $55.00 per hour and i average 1450.00 a week it must mean i drive 26.36 hours a week or about hmmm lets say 15% since i am not a mathematician
