Dream Team

The following was inspired by listening to fleet owners.

Team Available

Hard-working (Mon-Fri, daylight hours) , Reliable (but family comes first, including second cousins and their friends), Christian (when it suits us), non-smokers (will not smoke in truck unless it is cold, raining, or dark outside, or unless the truck is moving). We seek brand-new truck with all the bells and whistles and a fleet owner that pays all fuel, tolls and incidental supplies (like cigarettes, magazines (only a few adult - and two or three new CB radios a year to replace the ones we sell). Will consider taking ownership of your truck if the terms are right. Perfect records (except what is needed to go to Canada, and those accidents were not really our fault; call to hear the truth). Will drive anywhere (except New York City, and more than 500 miles from home within two weeks of a long weekend or major holiday). Paid hotel rooms required from time to time to ensure good sleep (safety takes priority). No pets (that we tell our carrier about; and the snake, which does not count since it is a reptile). References not provided since people lie. Highly professional. Most shippers and consignees are eager to move us quickly off their docks. We're the team you want! You're stupid if you don't call.

A year and half ago I could have never imiagned that this thinking could take place. This is what a year and half can do, it is sad but true nice post not what I was thinking about before I read the post.

Judged the book by the cover before reading it.

You need to explain what this is all about. I got a call to look on EO at a resume posting and had to explain this to the lady who read it.

But with that said, if this is how people think, this country is in trouble.

It's not about anything. It's a joke. :)

It's a joke, that's sad, but mostly true... at the expense of some people that don't really want work, they want their hands held! You know the kind... 'it's all about me, 9-5 expediter, no weekends, give me everything availible in my truck, I run it my way, treat it like it's stolen, etc."

After reading some of the stuff that happens to fleet owner trucks, I don't know how they figure out who to trust!

I know it is a joke, but believe me I have seen a lot of resumes like this where it tells me what they want not what they offer.

There is a lot of truth to what you wrote, I have heard too many people say some of the stuff you wrote and a few I can not believe what they expect as drivers. It seems no one wats to work anymore.

Let me be the first to dig my embarrassing rear out of the sand cause the way I read it was exactly this, crummy drivers who do not care to make anymore than $800 a month and than call it quits and to bad for the owner but don't take my truck back the one he does not own and promised the owner they would generate $16K a month or more.

But while I am on that note let me be the first to SLAM THE owner down there in GA who is advertising for drivers on this Site. All drivers BEWARE of owners based in GA check out there refrences first. This one is out to professionally screw you out of your last nickle so please do your homework and check those refrences and ask for documentation before you get into one his trucks.

His reputation came up again in a conversation last week. Not the first time his name has come up on this site and between members here.

Next time the joke will be on you ha ha this is not a joke line or should I just not bother comming on here anymore do not appriciate the humor.

Owners are just like the drivers. Some are the greatest thing since sliced bread while others are totally worthless.
Probably should mention, I am not from GA:7

I got a good chuckle out of it. They didn't ask for quarterly raises though. My guess is they're a real bargain.

Take care,
Danny

Thanks, we had a great time. It was a pleasure to meet so many in person.
Our new addition will be a nice test vehicle for Elite Services.
We are excited to see how it turns out.

RE: Dream Not Team

As it may be a joke, it is also a reality. I know first hand. I get calls/emails all the time from drivers, O/O looking to sign on with us, and many do say and write the very things ATeam writes, and perceives to be a joke.

Broom! You read it right the first time. Even though it was meant to be a joke, it was also meant to point out the truth of what is happening around us. You even state the noticed change in the last year and a half. As sad as it is, there are many, many people in this part of the world that think and do exactly as the joke perceives them.

Many moons ago, when I was in construction, my grandfather used to say, don’t hire anyone wearing a straw hat, who roles his own cigarettes. I know you are asking why! What he meant was, if I did hire this guy, I wouldn't get any work out of him. He would spend the day rolling cigs, and chasing his hat down the road, same allies to those who dictate to the one doing the hiring. If you hire a person who is going to tell you what he/she is going to do or not do, what or how will this benefit you? I say to hell with a person like that.

When I hire a person today, I do a careful check on them. Because of the attitude the working people have today, I trust very few. Maybe this is why I stay as small as I am. I would rather do one or two jobs, knowing they are being done right and on time, than ten, not knowing where and when the driver will deliver, or if it will be delivered at all.

On top of all that, most want a guanrantee for minimum income. I'm like Tony, still a small fish carrier for exactly his reasons. I have been requireing anyone new to run with the old buck (me) for a while before I turn anyone loose with equipment. That usually eliminates most bull ##### before it starts. Wake up everyone
drivers/owners, we are in this together, and, it is a moving target.

Some even want a climate controlled gym in the freight box.
That is right up there with spas and pool tables.

...will provide approximate location of truck in the event it becomes necessary to abandon it in order to pursuse other interests.

This happened to a fellow I was talking to after a team had been in his truck for 12 days. He had the police go check out the truck before he picked it up to make sure no one was dead inside. No dead bodies, but there were three dogs in the truck that had apparently been picked up during the 12 day adventure.
